New high-water mark for 681 NYSP?
Hi folks,
On an auction site, let’s call it BunGroker, a 681 NYSP just sold for almost $2300.
It was a nice example, but I’m not sure what made it realize such a sum - besides being a limited run of one of the best guns ever made.
Ok, I just talked myself back into it. Great price.
Let’s see some very fairly-priced NYSP guns. Viva Jovino !

I am really surprised it sold for that much to. I collect police-marked S&W revolvers. A few 681's are in my collection- Delaware State Police, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Ohio Highway Patrol. The last 681 I need is from the Minnessota State Patrol.
The DSP 681 cost me $900 at the tail end of 2019. The other ones were cheaper

This would be one of the later contract NYSP 681's. Remember Jovino was a S&W distributer and as such Departments ordered stock firearms though them.
The early (first 500) NYSP 681's were supplied though Jovino according to 4th Edition. These early revolvers are easy to identify as the S&W logo was still on right sideplate in 1981.
Here's one of the later contract,,,
I have the PC grips for it but prefer Ahrends for the range. I had one of the first 500 also. I'll need to dig for a photo of it. The auction revolver in O.P. looks to have been polished quite a bit. Not too uncommon as my own issued 681 (OSHP) received some polish to smooth out the holster wear. Once had a Captain inquire why I was "issued a Nickeled revolver". He was a brother gun-guy though and the next qualification, his was a little shinier.

I think another case of "I don't care what it costs I'm going to win this auction"-itis. No telling when the current seller's market is going to let up.

Not a 681 but rather a 1st year (AAA-prefix) 581.
This demonstrates the right sideplate marking found on the first 500 NYSP Jovino 681's.

Well I guess I gotta readjust the value on my 681 I should think it would be at least worth $2500 as it has the correct modified magnas PLUS a silver Tyler

I'm thinking it was within $1000 of its value. Auctions can be fun if you're a seller.
