Default Snubby 627-5 - Modern with a Hint of History

I spend most of my time on the forum in the pre-1960 section, as that is where most of my collection falls. I love the N-Frame .357 Magnums and enjoy collecting the pre-war Magnums and pre-27s. I also collect engraved S&Ws and custom grips (e.g. Original Ropers and anything made by Keith Brown). In addition to the old 6-shot Magnums, I also love the 8-shot 627s. There is something about having 8 shots of .357 Magnum power in your hand.

With all that said, and my love for custom grips undiminished, I could never warm up to the rubber Hogues that came on my 2.5" 627-5. A few months ago, I found this set of Altamont Ropers made out of some very nicely figured wood and I really like the way they look.

Thanks for letting me share,

Those grips make that 627-5 (no pun intended) POP!

I confess I am not wild about the almost-blond wood, but it is still a very nice piece of machinery. Way cool.

Beautiful combination.

I wonder how they’d look on a 5-inch gun ?

“Dad? What’s the difference between Very Nice and Exquisite?”

“Son, come look at this pic on the S&W forum of these 2 grips...”

I'm not sure ... yet. I have not had the chance to get out to the range lately... hopefully soon and I'll post a range report.

Thanks!

Very nice grips!
Mine used to have the OEM snub walnut grips, but after about a box of .357rd (hot reloads) I found myself bleeding in the crotch between my thumb and index finger.

I then took some 600 grit and tried to "adjust" rounding/transition near top of frame and grips. That didn't help , so I finally resorted to the rubber Hogue grips. Doesn't look nearly as nice but they prevent the above bleeding event...

^^^what HorizontalMike said! I wish S&W would provide a usable set of grips on such expensive revolvers. While I sought out RB grips as a much younger shooter (for reasons today unknown!), the RB frame digs into the web of my hand with its tissue and nerve damage. The Hogue rubber grips provide an almost-SB handle. I've found the Hogues w/o finger grooves to be more attractive and equally effective in recoil control. YMMV.

I am not sure. I need to get some moonclips and give it a shot (both literally and figuratively).

Thanks,
