Default A brace of odd Chiefs Special Model 60s

The stainless steel Chiefs bug bit me several years ago. So far, despite many attempts, I haven't found a cure for the bite.

Two recent additions to the herd are these.

For a reason I haven't yet discovered, the 55th anniversary of the Virginia State Police must have been an important milestone. S&W made 180 of these scroll engraved Model 60s with the state police logos on the side plate. (S&W also made 190 with the logos but no scroll engraving.) Each of the 370 revolvers was housed in a wooden case with a royal blue interior and the troopers logo etched on the cover.

Through 2000/2001 the S&W Performance Center made one Chiefs Special, as far as I can tell. It was this 1993 Model 60-7 3" Carry Comp target model with a ported barrel ahead of the dovetailed front sight. This was a Lew Horton limited edition of 325. It came in the contemporary standard PC blue plastic case. Badger made the laminated rosewood combat stocks with a MOP diamond inlaid on the right one. The SCSW 4th ed., identifies it on pp 433 & 443 as the ET-Comp; the seller did as well, but the seller didn't know what ET stands for. Do you?

Those are really nice. I like the model 60s looks and heft. Especially like the 3".

Okay, Alan, thanks.

So "E" means stainless J-frame, and "T" means what ... "target"?

I suppose so. But it doesn't explain why a similarly configured model 66 was named the "F Comp" and not FT.

Ah, ha, but all 66s were "target" models. Only a few 60s were.
