New K Frame Round Butt Grips
I bought a pair of walnut grips from a fellow member, thanks windypoint.
They need to be fitted on the back strap as they are just slightly higher than the frame.
I’ve never done this before and am looking for some suggestions.
What grit sand paper should I use?
I guess I only need to apply some walnut stain to the sanded portion.
Thanks.

Which grit depends on how much material needs to be removed. If just a little, start with 400, progress to 2000.
They're not walnut, they're polymer impregnated layered wood. Just touch up finish with True Oil by Birchwood casey.

Also, make sure to take the grips off, sand, fit, remove again, repeat. Don't get lazy and just sand them mounted, you'll ruin your gun.
Also, just looking at the pics, they look fine to me. Not worth attempting a first time refinishing job IMO

Nice looking grips. From your good pictures, it looks as though the grips are slightly scant on the front. As they protrude at the back, possibly enlarging each pin hole, and moving the grip slightly forward (and backfilling pin holes) could help.

Take some pictures of the back for us. You may have N frame grips.

After closer examination of the fitment of these grips, I have determined not to bother trying to make them fit the frame.
Anything other than trying to sand them down is out of the question. With condo living I don’t have the tools necessary to do other work on them. And I don’t want to turn them into total trash.
I will put them back in their box and maybe someday I will find someone who can use them.
I took a chance on buying after market grips, thinking that they would be a “drop in” replacement for the factory ones. Turns out, they are not.
IF someone here has the time, tools and patience to make them work on their round butt K frame, you can have them for $35.00, shipping included.
