I currently carry a 342 as a BUG while at work, and I love it. I would love to buy another one to keep nice looking but I can't seem to find any. The one I currently own has no finish left on it, one side of the titanium cylinder is scratched badly from me being hit by a car and sliding on the ground while chasing a crack head (yes, I got him), the grips are worn out....I mean I love it, I just wish I had another to keep in better shape.

S&W wants you to buy a 340PD instead (they cost more).

I know how you feel. I carry a 37-2 DAO Airweight as my on and off-duty BUG. I knew when I bought the gun it was a limited run and I'm not a huge fan of the current cataloged J-frame offerings (with the exception of the no-lock 442/642).
Given that, I purchased three of them over time. I have the one I carry, the other two are still unfired and locked up in the event that I wear out my carry 37-2 or something else happens to it (like it ends up in an evidence locker somewhere).
If Smith would offer the 340PD sans lock, they would sell me one in a heartbeat.

The 342 and 340PD became so close in price S&W had a hard time selling the 342 IMHO. I bought a 340PD and disengaged the lock.

My Pre Lock 342Ti is my favorite carry bug & haven't realy carried anything else since it's aquizition..
I used to pocket carry my 642-0 but haven't used it except for with my Alessi Shoulder rig since the 342Ti showed up..
Mine still is as new except for 50+ rounds that I fired through it + a bit of holster/pocket wear..
There the best pocket revolver I've come across Yet..
They do show up from time to time, I was lucky to find the one I have still in the box within a box with the factory wood grips etc.
Keep a look out on gunbroker I've seen very few pass through there..

I think I saw that the 342 is still in the S&W LE catalog, which can be downloaded on the S&W factory site. If so, you can get it from a LE distributor.
