629-3 option identifying
Hi I was in local gun shop and ran across this 629-3 in nice shape did some homework didn’t know much about them but have been wanting a 44 so I went back and bought it. My question is I got to reading and found out about combat grips and was curious if these are a real factory set, it also came with a black rubber set. Also it has a 7.5 inch barrel which I can’t find info on them being made in 7.5 and I have original box with it to verify it was factory correct.
Thank you

Welcome to the forum. That's a beautiful gun. The combats look to be factory. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the first 'Classics' were the Magna Classics and had the 7 1/2" barrel but were also polished. And came with a nice wooden display box with extra front sights. The production code # on the label doesn't match the Magna Classic though. You may have one of the over-runs. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will contribute. You found a VERY nice 44 for a starter. Enjoy.

Someone else on another page said about the same thing they believe it to be a over run. It was made in 91 and actually has the original receipt in the box which I thought was neat. Which may make sense if magna classic where made in 90 it was left overs. I take it the numbers of these are quite low then that where mad, is there any type of premium for a run over like this that really doesn’t seem to be known to exist.

Those combats look like factory to me as well. 2nd Gen thinner (flattened) ones that I believe, go for quite a bit on their own.
In addition to what 75vette said, the Magna Classics also had such noted on the barrel, there was no mistaking them.
I think it's neat that yours doesn't have the ".44 Magnum" on the underlug. It looks a lot cleaner that way.

The SCSW IV says 306 over-runs were made in April of 1992. The date on your label indicates 1991. Of course, anything is possible with the factory. Any markings on the right side of the barrel?

I'd be curious to know how much you paid, if you are willing to divulge that, of course.

This one had to be 1991 the reicept in the box is mid 1991. Im at work right now don’t have picture of other side of barrel but by memory other side of barrel just says 44 magnum. I have just under 1000 in it I hope it was good price, with the odd ball part of this gun I thought it was good price.

Its hard to specify a value in the current volatile market. I would have expected $1000-1150 in my parts.

In today's crazy market, you stole that one IMO. I'd say $1200 minimum being what it is. Take care of it and enjoy shooting it.
Oh...and welcome to the addiction.
