I have a STI Trojan in 45acp that has all the bells and whistles and wondering if it would be a fair trade for a 646PC. The 646 has had a trigger job, cylinders chamfered, and the hammer bobbed, but only shot 200-300 rounds. Also comes with 30 moon clips and Holster.

What would you say the value would be?

I don't know anything about values, but I have a 646, and I wouldn't trade it for an STI Trojan.

I also wouldn't want a titanium cylinder wheelgun which had had the cylinders honed. According to S&W there is a coating on their titanium cylinders, and if it's removed or not given proper care, damage can result in subsequent firing.

There has been a lot of discussion about this, and opinion seems to be split 50/50 on whether the factory information is accurate or not. I figure somebody can do what they want with their own gun, it's none of my business. I'll do the same, and follow the maker's recommendation.

I an not a fan of the 40 cal so I would never give up a STI Trojan. If you are serious about a revolver that shoots a 40 cal cartridge, look at a S&W 610. More versatile and far more stout.

I have an unmolested 646 that I personally wouldn’t trade off. Part of its appeal is the rarity, but the one you’re looking at has been modified so that throws off providing a value.

The 646 is a strange creature - a no lock L frame with a frame mounted firing pin and titanium cylinder. Mine also shoots like a house afire.

I am leaning toward the trade as I kind of like the novelty of it. Thank you for the input.

Which 646 are you looking at? There was a Performance Center model with the Slab sided barrel in an Al. case. Anytime you can trade a bottom feeder for a hard-to-find revolver is a good thing! The 646 PC is the one on the lower left.

It is the performance center with the full underlug, but no slab side. If it were the slab side I would not hesitate. I have just about decided to make the trade and will be going to shoot it tomorrow. Are those all yours in the pic? If so.....wow

If it doesn't have the slab-sided barrel it is not the PC model. The regular production 646's, with the full round underlug, also came in a PC aluminum case, even though they aren't PC guns.

I have one of each, thankfully. The PC is my favorite gun of all, though not the choice of most!

As far as value, I notice the FL version (non PC) seems to flucuate more ($1100-$1600). The PC, you can expect 2k up pricing. These are just my observations & GB would be the best on current values.

It’s close to a PC case and from across the room easily gets mistaken for one. It is smaller than a typical PC case, only one latch and not two, and the large emblem on the front is a S&W emblem but it isn’t a PC emblem.
