Default Strange ... why ?

Two years ago, I bought a brand new model 17-9 (Classic line) ... with internal lock ...

It came with 2 lock keys and the keyhole just above cylinder latch ...

But, strangely, there's no "locked" flag inside the frame at left of the hammer ...

I'd ask to SW tech dpt ... no answer !
I'd ask to SW french dealer ... no answer !

Is it specific for european import ?

What do you think about this ? (see picture below)
Best regards

Does it still lock? Because if by chance you had it to defend your home, and it happened to be locked (which doesn't make sense, but a lot doesn't make sense anymore!), you wouldn't know it until you tried to use it. If it does lock, unlock it and tape the little key bag to your case under the foam somewhere. Maybe keep trying S&W.

Either S&W failed to install the flag (unlikely) or someone outside the factory removed it before you took possession. The gun should fire just fine without it. Some folks here in the US simply remove the flag to deactivate the lock.

The key will turn normally, but the lock won't function without the flag. There's a lug on the inside of the flag that engages a corresponding slot in the hammer to lock it down.

You may have a difficult time finding someone that will ship that gun part, because of ITAR. Your best bet is to contact your local S&W Warranty Station.

I don't have one, but I am sure that the Centennials that have the lock, like some 442's and the 640-3, don't have a flag. The whole idea is a closed frame that won't admit lint, etc. Would defeat the purpose of a spurless revolver to mill a flag slot in the frame! Without the flag, someone who actually used the lock (there might be some) wouldn't know if the gun action was locked or not without trusting memory or inserting the "key" to check. For these reasons, I bought a 640-1 Pro model, instead of the dash 3. I would have bought the non pro model if no lock.

Best,
Rick

Thank you all for your answers

No internal lock isn't a problem for me, I wouldn't have used it !
Just for info, I wanted to know because it seems weird ...

Anyway, a revolver is safe enough without any lock !

SIDAM (local SW warranty station) didn't answer to my question ...
