Model 57 I would like help identifying.
Hello Forum
I have a Model 57 no dash, with a finish I am not familiar with and would like some information in it,
Serial # is N300280. It has a 6 inch barrel. As you see from the pictures the barrel has been ported. Is there a chance this could be a factory finish or is it an aftermarket job?
The inside of the porting is stainless.

Not factory finish to my eyes-looks like some kind of hard chrome aftermarket finish. Remove the stocks and look for an "N" to be sure.

I think jscheck nailed it with hard chrome. Of course, he was in the Air Force, so I would expect perfection.
Hard Chrome is a superior finish, I don't think there's one better. Many years ago when Armoloy did a revolver for me, they would plate the inside of the barrel if it was .38 caliber or larger - the ports on yours may be plated as well.

Agree, sure looks like hard chrome to me. I'll also agree that it is a very good finish for a revolver that is intended to be carried and used. Here's my 25-5 with hard chrome for comparison that I've shown before when this question arises.

jscheck I took the grips off and it is a N seriel number. I believe you are correct that it has been chromed. I hate that is has been done, but it is still an awesome shooter and I will continue to enjoy it.
Thank you very much for your help.

That SN is from 1975-76 production (N300,000). Blue and nickel were the only factory-offered finishes. My guess is it was probably refinished when the barrel was ported.
