THAT has to be the result of several factors, the current gun buying phenomenon, the political fear of confiscation that does exist in some circles, the difficulty in finding concealable revolvers like that in light of the prevailing concealed carry concepts across the country, and a little bit of ignorance on the real value of such things.

Yikes!

I can't remember how much I paid for the 2" 64 I used to have, but I think it was in the $350-400 range maybe 8-10 years ago.

I'm kinda scared to look up auctions for 640NDs.

I don't have much experience with GB auctions, but I'm confused. Why would someone submit a bid higher than the "Buy-now" price?

Does the "Buy-Now" option become disabled at some point once bidding begins?

Can't say if this was, in fact, the case, but my first thought was a shill. *shrug*

As speculated, the "buy now" price goes away when the bid reaches a certain percentage of the buy now value. This is most likely the result of a non gun person selling off a relative's guns on gunbroker. You'll notice, they have no feedback. They don't know pricing, and due to the factors others have mentioned, a feeding frenzy ensues. Good deal for the guy that realizes it in time. I'll bet that seller is shocked!

Text from the add:
"Smith & Wesson .38 Special, 1 inch barrel, holds 6 bullets, good condition, wood grip, model 64-4. must sell to Florida resident, meet me in South Florida for sale, can accept credit card, paypal, venmo, cash, & zelle. Text Mike at 954-818-8980"

This is not a person who knows guns. Good for them on the price!

My guess there was a few bidders who just followed the herd not knowing prices or much about firearms. With some experience, patience and homework you can still pick up a decent desirable concealed carry weapon at a half way reasonable price considering the times for $500-600.

There are a lot of shill bidding going on at GunBroker. I often see auctions that I'm bidding on get bidded up by non rated bidders AND multiple accounts with 1 to 3 ratings. When I visit their profile, they all the previous auctions that they won are ALWAYS from the same seller. Plus when I look at what items they purchased, sometimes they won autions buying the same exact NIB $700-$1000+ firearm within days apart. Why would someone over pay to buy two 9f the exact same gun within a a couple of days or weeks time?

No one is going to bid past the buy now price unless they're an idiot, and I've see a lot of that too.

If I see a low or no rated bidder bidding against me, I stop bodding and move on.
