I have both 10mm autos and .44 Mags. I have an old police trade-in S&W 1076 that rides in my Jeep, but if I’m worried about bear, the 629 Mountain Gun rides on my hip (Mitch Rosen holster) loaded with hard cast LBT bullets.

What ever you get, practice with the ammo (or equivalent) of what you're going to be carrying in it.

FYI - I have a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull, 7.5", and it shoots high pressure 45 LC rounds (240 gr, 1200+ fps), very comfortably with its Hogue Tamer grip. Maybe you should see if there are Tamers for your final selection, whatever it is. (I once was interested in the snubby version of the SRH, but could never convince myself to spend on it.)

Another digression, the Danish Army's Sirius Dog Sled Patrol in Greenland.

Don’t misunderstand, I like glocks, have a few, and wish I had a 10mm. But for bear country, especially big bear, I would want the biggest, most powerful message I could send down range . I seriously doubt the 8th-16th cartridge in the magazine would matter. Your first, possibly second, and maybe third shot would be the ones saving your life. Someone recommended the best that Buffalo bore, etc had to offer. I agree. I prefer the 4” barrels, but that is only preference. (Actually, I carry a 6” 657 41 mag, it only because I don’t have a 44 mag).
