22 Magnum not 22 WMR LOLZ
Browsing through the S&W website in the revolvers section, I select caliber as a filter. This section is broke down by cartridge, not caliber, but whatever. The initial listing is 22LR, 22 WMR and then 22 Magnum. The wmr section only list the reintroduction of the 648 ( great gun, miss mine), but you have to go to the 22 magnum section to see the 351 line. What am I missing? I know there is WMR( aka 22 magnum) and the older, shorter WRF, but as far as I can tell there is no separate cartridge known as a 22 magnum or 22 mrf, seems like a good way to confuse customers. Figuring this was just some web designers flub, I called customer service......... Nope, they are not the same they tell me, she even confirmed it with her supervisor. Sad day when a gun mfg doesn't know what they are making.

The old Model 53 was in .22 Jet, aka .22 Center Fire Magnum, was marked simply ".22 Magnum" on the barrel. It came with chamber inserts for .22 LR, but not .22 WRM. If you weren't confused before...

Anyone have a 22 WRF? I eventually broke down and shot some out of my 22mag.

Barrel Stamping
S&W barrel markings are;
22 Magnum (mod 53) AKA 22 Remington Jet
22 M.R.F (mod 48) AKA 22 Magnum Rimfire
or (SAAMI says) 22WMR Winchester Magnum Rimfire

Loyaljeeper, I have a Winchester Model 1890 that shoots 22WRF. But, I don't shoot it much, so I too have shot that round out of my Model 48.

I've loaded and shot the 22 jet. Belched fire like my 357 mag. I guess I was mostly surprised that customer service was adamant that it was not the same cartridge.

Way back when, Colt made some revolvers in .22wrf.

I regularly visit a sight in which the caliber selection checklist has a bunch of alternative names on it for some reason.
For example, the checklist includes: 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm NATO, and 9x19. I presume that this is done so that folks can find what they're looking for regardless of the seller's choice of nomenclature.
Unfortunately, it doesn't really help since some private sellers on the website are so lazy that they'll use completely nonsensical abbreviations for cartridges, or otherwise just expect the buyer to know what cartridge any given model of firearm is chambered in and thus never actually bothers to include the cartridge anywhere in the description.

I was wondering why I couldn’t find the 648 on their web site! I’d just seen one at my LGS.
Thanks!

In 2021, when you say ".22 Magnum" you're almost always referring to the .22WMR. Just like when someone walks into a gun store and asks for a box of .38s, they don't ask if he means .38 Long Colt, .38 ACP, or even the reasonably popular .38 Super. There's 100 .38 Special guns to every .38 Super out there.
I'm sure a few people have purchased Winchester 1903s and been disappointed (though also poor students of history, as the .22WMR cartridge they perhaps thought it chambered is much younger than the rifle), but you'd have to be pretty obtuse to examine a Model 53 and figure it fired the .22WMR. I suppose one could obtain an example through an auction site, have it shipped to their FFL, and then be surprised that it actually fired .22 Jet, but...caveat emptor. Know what you're buying.

I think the fireball of the 53 is even more impressive than .357 Mag

And what little recoil there is is completely lost in the flash and bang.

My first cartridge handgun was a used Colt Frontier Scout in .22 Magnum. It came with two bricks of .22 Remington Special (aka WRF). I shot up most of that before I came up with a .22 LR cylinder for it.
