3" Model 66's - Which ones were exclusive?
I believe that there were 5 runs of the 3" barrels, and some (maybe all) were exclusive to certain dealers. Does anyone know which ones they are:
66-2 Ashland
66-3 ?
66-4 RSR?
66-5 Lew Horton, and some stocking distributor specials
66-6 ?
I would love to know which distributor/dealers sold which version, and how many were produced total SCSW doesn't really talk about anyone other than Lew Horton.
Thanks

I do know that the -3s were from a distributor outside of Harrisburg Pa. in 1988/89

I lettered a 66-4 hoping that a solid production number would be provided. It states how many -2s were produced, but not much else. So we know how many -2s were made (a lot), but anyone wanting an actual production count for a later version could be gambling the money away on a letter.
My guess would be the -3s being the fewest, and other than the info provided by BAM-BAM, I have no clue which distributor/s they were shipped to.
I've posted the letter for this RSR -4, CAA 80xx (1 of ?) several times to pass along the info. The other letter was posted by someone else. It states 2 different prefixes...CRC and CBC. I'm going with CBC on this one. It does provide a count of 119 for that particular run, and the exact serial # range. I have also heard that there were several short production runs of the -4s.
edit to add...didn't know about the 2 different RSR locations until comparing these letters.
Maybe someone else will share their letter that states how many -3 or later 3" 66s were actually produced??

Trying to remember where my 3" 66-3s came from........
To make a long story short I believe it was Kassnar Imports/ K.B.I. that operated out of Harrisburg Pa. Most famous for importing The FEG Hi-Power clones and relabeled Turkish Shotguns .
I lived in Harrisburg from late 1985-92. Was in a conversation with a local gunsmith/FFL I did business with about the 3" 66s that were being written about in the "Gun Rags" at the time. He said there were a "bunch" that had been sitting on a local Distributors shelves for almost a year. This was 1988 and everyone wanted a "Wonder-nine" with 15 rds up its butt...........
He called me a couple of days later and said he'd brought me one to look at........ With him polishing up the action it was $270 OTD. I ended up buying a second at that price.
That's my story......................
My -4 I found in a Pittsburgh LGS about 20 years ago....

My -4 has the standard barrel profile......
I maga-ported a 3" 65 back in 86/87.... it was "OK" with full bore .357 not so much with +P .38 which is generally what I carried..... so I passed on the ported (2 and 4) and expansion chamber 3" PC guns of the 90s.

This info is probably as useless as I am, but according to jughed440's letter, the 4195 Ashland 66-2's 3" were in the AER, AHL, AHJ, and ANA serial number ranges and shipped in May of 1985. I have a 66-2 3", also shipped in May 1985 serial numbered in the AFZ range. So maybe in May '85 they shipped the 4195 unit to Ashland and same time shipped more units to other distributors.
