Default Favor Request....S&W M27 in 3 1/2” Pics Please.

Hey all.

One of my all time favorite firearms is the Model 27 with the 3 1/2” barrel. I think it’s right up there with the Python in looks and elegance. It’s such a gorgeous piece. I’ve never had the chance to even handle one though. Maybe I’ll get the chance to own one someday.

In the meantime, would you all please post pics of your favorite 27 in 3 1/2” ?? Doesn’t matter if it’s blue or nickel, classic or one if the re-issue 8-shot models, I love ‘em all. I’ve got a few pics saved, but I’d like to see more. I’d really like to see a couple pics with a 27 wearing Tyler’s. Oh, one more thing, my favorite is the smaller grip instead of the BIG factory grips like what came on the 29 and 629. Nice, but not as beautiful as the classic smaller grip they came with.

I would really appreciate it if you’d post some pics for me.

Thank you all for all the advice and help you’ve given me every time I’d ask dumb stuff.....

Larry

Default Ask and ye shall recieve!

I really like the 27-2s with the 3.5 inch barrels. Have a couple, both a blued and a nickel.

These photos are my nickel baby, with two of those photos wearing a set of Ajax "Kirinite" stocks.

It's funny, sometimes I get together with some local gun folks for a "Happy Hour" and I bring along my iPad with gun photos. We call it "Gun Porn". Well, if that's what it is... I'm all in.

Best wishes everyone!

Was the 27-2 3.5" ever used as a Police or Agency side arm?
I just bought one in a LA CALF Clark holster. a 61 S prefix.

G. Gordon Liddy of Watergate fame carried one as an FBI agent before he spent time in a Federal slammer. He was loaned a 5” but said it dug into the seat when trying to enter a car. His wife bought him the 3 1/2”. He said much more comfortable.

My lord such gorgeous pistols.

If I ever run across a reasonable 6 inch 27 or 28, I’ll turn it into a 3 1/2” to hold me over till I get a REAL one!!

One more question.....

Can all model 27’s use the smaller grips? I see some pictures here that have the larger grips like those on the M29. Could you take those large grips off of one of these 27’s and put in a set of the smaller grips without modification?

Did they make these revolvers with 2 different grip sizes?

I hate to run into the DEAL if a lifetime on a 27 and it has the BIG GRIPS on it and I race home to order a small grip for it only to later find out that the small grips won’t fit cause this 27 was made for the big grips.

Anyone??

Appropriate grips fit the appropriate frame.

I think all the revolvers shown have been N frame square butt.

So yes the smaller magna ones and the larger target ones are a simple swap.
You'd also get a chunk of change back if not using targets.

Default I can play now...

I have always had the S&W Model 27 3.5" itch! I've had opportunities to scratch it, but the timing never seemed to work.

I always wanted a shooter, not a safe queen.

Another forum member posted he was at a crossroads on what to do with this Model 27 ND. To refinish or move it along... (pic stolen from his post, as I haven't taken any yet)

We talked, and it now has a home in Virginia...

SN is S1987xx - so 1960? (I was hoping for a '58, but what can you do)

Finally - that itch is gone! Sadly it will probably replaced by another itch, but for now, I'm very happy.

1971, sent back for a reblue less than a month after it was sold. No idea why.

The way I bought it:

I changed the grips, these were the first rounds fired at 25 yards:
