Default Pandemic Pricing

Pandemic pricing has certainly slowed my accumulation down, but it has also given me time to enjoy what I already have. Here are a few of my favorites. A 649-3, a 64-3 and a 617-1.

Care to share some of your favorites?

Very nice collection. Like you, I am happy with what I already have. Would be pretty tough nowadays to get a deal on any handgun. Enjoy them in good health.

Firearms and ammo are in short supply and command premium prices. Enjoy what you have.

My local gun shop sold a box of 50 magtech .357 yesterday for $65. I thought that was crazy. People are bidding over $200 for a single box of 50 .357

While out of town on Monday stopped at a small town gun shop to see what they had, owner said he had no 38/357/9mm/380 but did have some 40 and 45. Also shop was down to 2 used handguns. Medium sized and compact handguns appear to be the hot sellers. The fly in the ointment is ammo availability, if I was shopping I'd be inclined to go with a 45 auto based on better availability of ammo and mags. As for prices if you have to ask how much you can't afford it.

I have actually taken the recent covid times to sell a few pieces. I still have a couple things I want, but I can wait. I think. All in all, I have a reasonably well rounded collection. I am not into J frames and the 2 K snubs I have is enough. I have an excess of grips, but I like to change them around. Gotta be patient

Majick47, Respectfully, it's not that I can't afford it, it's just that I am unwilling to pay artificially inflated prices. As for ammo, I have more ammo than I'll ever shoot.

Narragansett, I'd like to find some more nice grips, too, but as I said, I'm allergic to inflatated prices. You're right, patience is the key.

I think it’s the demand that’s driving the prices up plus we’re seeing greedy sellers. Just wait and see if these prices increase even more. Your going to be happy to have what we have. Trust my the Klingon hole guns will look good too.

I used the occasion to get rid of some 44 mag I wasn't going to shoot. Too powerful for my old self and my model 69. Sold some for 70 cents a round and some for 88 cents per round, a lot less than the going rate but a lot more than I paid for it. A win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Fortunately, I have all the guns on my "must have" list. My "wish list" guns are too expensive or unavailable right now.

I felt I had to stop going to the range during the pandemic but I just got my second vaccine shot and am looking forward to going shooting for the first time in a long time in about 10 days.

Not everyone is trying to get exaggerated prices now. Seek out gun shows and the local gun list online, As an example, in the last couple of weeks, I have sold a 4566, a 65 Lady Smith and a 64 three inch. The 4566 sold for $ 550, the LS for $ 700, and the 64 $ 600. All were in excellent condition.

I just went browsing again, every revolver I clicked on either said “OUT OF STOCK” or “DISCONTINUED”. But they show pistols in stock, plastic I guess. What revolvers I seen in the past the prices have doubled.

I’m like a kid with a $1 in the drug store in the 50’s the candy rack is empty. All those big 5 cent candy bars are gone.

I had hoped that priced would start to moderate by now. No such luck, I have been to 4 gun shows in the last 30 days. I have enough cash to buy several guns. I have found a few things I liked but were repulsed by the ridiculous prices. I saw the same 2 1/2 inch 686 -4 with wrong box at 2 shows for $ 1500. Seller would not budge an inch.

I was at OGCS today and looked at least 3 different 66 four inch, revolvers, All wanted $ 1000. I bought a 66-1 four inch at same show in September for $ 500. I have paid $ 1000 for a 66,

it was a 2 1/2 no dash.

A shorty 45 was $ 2000, a 5906 was $ 800, Performance center 9 was I believe $ 2500.

Are these prices ever going to moderate? I'm beginning to wonder.

It seems that in my locality (Denver metropolitan area) prices are starting to normalize again-even the "evil black rifles" are plentiful and selling in the normal range. One shop near me has the Colt CR6920 for under $1100. Most shops have a healthy supply of current production firearms.

It seems the online stores are still having a hard time stocking items.

The consignment case at what had been my favorite store has a fair amount of good deals on guns now too. A number of them pre-lock Smiths too.

The other day the moon and planets must of been in the right place. Things looked to be picking up. Maybe booming again. My online dealer sold a 70’s python and a s&w m18 a few days apart, I browse the gunsI site a lot of revolvers marked sold. It seemed like A sell A thon? Looks like the buyers are paying the higher prices to get the good stuff?

I was saving up to purchase a m29-10 nickel classic but the python caught my eye. Being very frugal I just can’t reach for my cash for one gun. I thought spending $1,000 and under for one revolver was my limit and a good buy at the time.
Somethings aren’t important right now.

The classics being offered aren’t that high. Every seller is trying to double there investment. There running scared these higher prices may hit bottom. They are riding the wave to the beach.

Funny the older K frames haven’t gone up much yet?

I've been adding to my small S&W collection, but I'm not paying
pandemic prices. As such, I have lost a few on GB in the bidding
process as I have a cut off price in my mind, and stop bidding
when I hit it. Oh well.

Same here. I refuse to pay the inflated bidding that is going on right now. I have 5 revolvers on my watch page. 3 .44’s 1 357 and 1 10mm all are about to end in a few hours and every one of them are well over $1000 at this point. Guess I’ll just keep on watching.

In my trying to be patient I have gotten 2 beautiful unfired N frames from 2 great forum members at non pandemic pricing. I do think the 3.5" M27 is going to elude me. I do not mind paying fair money, but not stupid money for what I want, and the 3.5" M27 is nuts in pricing

I haven't been in a gun store or gun show in over 2 yrs. Don't even look on the internet sites anymore. When I feel 'the urge' I just open my safe, turn on the lighting and pretend I'm in a gun store. If I'm still alive when the prices get real, I may go shopping again.
IMHO of course,
J.

I’m hoping this is not the new normal. The longer this goes on the more people get used to paying high prices.
I think most people on here like pre-warning, pre-lock, blue steel and walnut. They aren’t making them anymore. New prices might be the norm. Glad that I reload and am immune to the high prices related to ammo……for a while.😬
Until this gets sorted out, like the OP, I will be enjoying what I have.

Been surfing the web checking prices on guns and ammo. One box Winchester white box 9mm $41 without shipping. Any of the personal defense ammo fogetdabboutt it as my Brooklyn buddies used to say. Buddy was going to get a handgun for home protection. Sticker shock cured him of that idea. And that was before prices really took off. Colonial pipeline from Texas to New Jersey got hacked and prices of gas and diesel are already climbing. And forget about reloading components. Haven't even checked prices on mil surps lately. One good thing was years back was mine the pistol berms at our gun club. Took all the 45acp 230 grain hard cast bullets and melted them down separately. Probably have about 75 pounds of hard ball ingots. Still have one more bucket to go. Not gloating by any means. Just that I shoot cast bullets in some of my rifles. Wheel weights plus 2% tin is perfect for most if not all my shooting. Crazy world we live in. One thing I've noticed is on most of the forums I belong to, is that I'm seeing a lot more want to buy requests. Going to get worse before it gets better. Frank

.22LR is getting expensive to shoot, along with everything else. Luckily, I have a bunch of .22 Long and .22 Short to feed these Model 18's.
