Hi all, I have been reading on the forum for a while now and have come to value the information provided. Thank you for your time and willingness to share your knowledge and experience. I am looking for some information on a Model 19-5 with a 4" barrel I purchased from a friend at work. About 15 years ago I sold this same friend a nickel 19 with a 6" barrel and when I decided I needed another one he was nice enough to part with one of his. The #is AJF5XXX and it has adjustable rear sites with the white box outline. I am wondering the approximate age and also if there is any way to tell what grips it came with originally. I do have the matching box . On the label under Stock it reads TS which I would assume means target stock but you know what happens when you assume. The gun shoots great and I would like to replace the pachmayr grippers with what came on it.
Thanks

Should be 1985-ish.

Wide kind of trigger and hammer does it have? Does it have a red ramp front sight?

Is the label on the box hand writen or printed with a barcodes? Is there a product number?

...I have more questions than you do...

In the SCSW 3rd, all of the square butt in that time frame are listed with target stocks, some with target triggers and hammers.

I agree 1985ish..
I have a bit later made 19-5 4" that I was told 1986-1987 it's serial is AUL92XX..
Mine came with the original Target stocks with Target hammer & trigger, has the orange insert front sigh but does not have the white outline rear sight, It's plain black which gives a nice sight picture BTW..
I put a set of Combat Stocks on mine that seem to fit my hand much better than the Target stocks, besides they look good on the "Combat Magnum"
Congrats on your Find lilhuff42 & welcome to the forum..
Here's some pics of my Pawn Shop find last month, Couldn't pass it up..
Headknockers Model 19-5 AUL92XX

It has the red/orange front insert sight. The box is typed but no bar code and the product code is 100707 followed by an X and then the Spec. Ord. is 5296 with a hand written 8 under the Pkr. The gun looks very similar to Headknockers.

This one shoots great. I have a 686 with a 6" barrel and a M&P9 while all of them shoot good I like the 19 the best.

You got a great deal on yours IMO. I gave $270 for mine. Great pawn shop find. I will have to start checking the local gun stores AND pawn shops.

Some of my best deals have come from local pawn shops..
You gotta stop there several times a week & be ready to at least put em on layaway..
A good deal won't last a day in those places..

That's a good looking 19 lilhuhh42! Looks to be in excellent shape.

I waste too much time in pawn shops. Most of the time there's nothing great there but that one time you find a diamond they think is just a rock makes it worth it. HEADKNOCKERS right though, it will not be there when you go back.
