Default model 10-8 Identification help

Just got a 10-8 HB 38 spec 4". No safe queen here! Well worn finish but still a tight-N-right shooter. This poor ol gal has been branded many times. I've included the marking 'case anyone would have a clue as to what they might represent. Ser # 9D22XXX so I think 1981? In my 75+ years I've owned many S&Ws including a couple of 53s years ago. Welcome from Western Massachusetts. I read in another thread here on the forum that JP marked guns were sent back to this country from Police use in Jordan. Others with more info will be here shortly. Good luck with it!

Default Welcome from North Texas

My first classic S&W is JP 115, a 10-5 with serial D784xxx I acquired a little over a year ago. The K frame, square butt 4” is a great way to start, I already have another, a 64-5. Tell us more.

I found the info on the JP marked 10s..Leased to the British for distribution to their Commonwealth countries, the signed over to local LEOs by the justice of the peace respectively. They were then returned to the US..Make sense ?? I want to know what it would require to modify the 10 to 357 M ??

For JP, you will find many more references to Jordan police than that story you relayed. Here’s a link to one of many:
‘Conversions’ are best left to Glock owners, I have one in 357 Sig and a .40 S&W conversion barrel, and I could get a 9mm barrel if I want one. S&W revolvers, however, are different. If you want a k-frame 357 Magnum, buy a model 13. Have you even shot your 10-5? Get some +P and call it a day.

Trader, welcome to the forum! Nice shooter you've got there! As far as converting it to .357, buy another gun.

Ours may have been shipped overseas about the same time. My 10-8 is s/n 9D19297 and shipped 12/1981. Similar markings. Also like yours not a safe queen and it is one of my best shooters. Very smooth action.

I have been told those markings are indicative of time spent in Jordan.

I'll take your advice on the conversion as I have 15 Ruger SA wheelguns and several in 357. Thank you for your insight and I'll pursue the Jordan story...Trader
