I have a nice S&W 4" 686-2 with the letters TPSC-021 stamped(factory?) on the frame , left side above the trigger/below the cylinder . Does anyone know what TPSC stands for . They didn't shoot a lot because the condition is Excellent. Thanks to all who answer.

I am interested to know myself. I've been collecting police-marked guns for a few years and have never came across that marking before.

My guess is that it is from Tennessee. The best way to find out is to contact Mr. Jinks at the S&W historical society

Thanks. I thought about Tennessee or Texas. But maybe the SC stands for South Carolina. I'll pursue the issue.

Here are some photos. I went to another S&W forum and got the suggestion that it could be from Thomas Protection Services Corp. a small security firm still in business in Texas. I should contact them maybe and ask if they recall purchasing an allotment of 686s from S&W. They started business in 1981.

Maybe trooper South Carolina #21....I don’t know....a lot of possibilities.
