686 Plus sights
Hi all, is there an aftermarket front and rear sight to replace the one piece front sight without milling the stock sight off the barrel? Looking for something bright like EZVIZ makes for 9mm pistols.
Everything I've found fits removable front sight S&W guns.
Thanks,
Rick N6PE

My 686+ -6 has a removeable front sight.
Just did some research, it was integral to the barrel up to the -4, when they went to a pinned blade.
Sorry for the original mis-information, S&W, never say never or always.

I had a gunsmith replace my 686+ front sight with Hi-Viz fiber optic. Search Amazon for the 0.250" sight with the rounded bottom tab which inserts into the integral front sight base slot. The new sight needs to be drilled to install the pin which secures it to the sight base.

The older L frames did not have a removable front sight & is integral to the barrel..
Also this is posted in the M&P Pistol Section..
Should be able to get a moderator to move it for you..
You're front sight looks like this I would guess.. 686 For Reference
Good Luck..

If you want fiber optic, or anything other than the stock sight, I'm afraid that you're stuck with the milling off the old sight and base and installing a new base. The real upside to that is that the new base accepts the interchangeable blades of the DX system. Weigand used to make the bases, but no longer does. Fortunately, Bowen picked up the ball and now offers the base. You need to find a competent gunsmith to do the installation. It has been a number of years ago, but I believe that I paid $150 for the part and installation - the blade is sold separately. Mine was done on a 586.
Good luck.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

I had a 4" 686 -0 that needed to go back to S&W for the M modification. I asked if they could replace the integral front sight with a black partridge front sight while it was there and they did. I don't recall being charged Xtra.

Check out : fusion firearms.com
They have both front and rear sights for S&W's . I got some LPA adjustable for a couple of my semi's , but they carry a selection for revolvers also .
