Default Question About Target Grips

I have a new 19-9 "Classic" that came with the wood Target grips S&W is putting on the guns now, round-to-square butt conversion.

Also I have an 18 that I use as my cheap (relatively) ammo trainer for the 19. It has square butt Magnas on it and I'd like to replace them with square butt target grips similar to my 19-9.

It looks like S&W has changed the dimensions of the Target grips over the years, I don't care about the cutout for speed loaders but photos look like the shape on the underside immediately behind the trigger guard varies somewhat, and the area of checkering also, maybe even the length and thickness. I don't want the grips to be any bigger than the ones on my 19-9, and a little skinnier would be fine.

Comments and suggestions?

P.S.
I know rubber works great, but don't like it on blued S&W revolvers.

K Frame square butt target grips are often available on-line from Ebay and others. They have become quite pricey in recent years.

You might consider a Tyler T Grip or other make that fills in the area behing the trigger guard. I use them on magna grip equipped revolvers with comfort and they provide a good grip, nearly as good as a target grip.

Tyler T grips adapters are fine , but the price is skyrocketed now.
There is a lot of beautiful wood target stocks on the market, and all square butt models have the same internal dimensions (Google Hogue, Eagle, Badger, Ahrends, Herrett, Nill, Spegel and so on. I don't make mention of Culina, 44magget and Brown, luxury stocks...)
You are looking for skinner grips.....exactly the opposite of my taste. Be aware that Altamont grips (the current Smith's offer) are too thin yet. I don't think you could find thinner panels.

If you're trying to match your 18 to the 19, check out the Altamont web site. They make the grips for the 19 and they make a target grip for square butt K frames.

Good advice, thanks.

When I checked the Altamont site today, they show K frame Coke Bottle Target stocks (slightly different from the normal Target stocks that came on the 19-9), but "Temporarily Unavailable". Like almost all of their similar stocks.

So I called them and asked- the K Target Cokes are expected to be available in July in both square butt and round-to-square versions, and he confirmed they have the more slender profile with palm swells. That should fit my hand well and allow me to have identical stocks on both guns.

Actually, Magnas with a Pachmayr grip adapter work fine with the 18 but neither of those will work with the round butt 19-9. And the Magnas alone look nice on the 18, adding the Pachmayr adapter looks period-correct and feels good but really hurts my eyes.

Everything in the world is "temporarily unavailable" right now. Especially gun stuff. Good luck and don't forget to post some photos.

I would go with the Altamont grips for a little slimmer profile. See if Altamont will let you backorder.

I just purchased some grips from Hogue in solid cocobolo and I am impressed on their craftsmanship, price and availability in both sold and laminated. They had them in the mail in one day. Check them out.
