1998 S&W 66 1998 2 5 inch
What would be a fair price for a model 66 2.5" amazing condition revolver. Looks to be unfired maybe just a few rounds at most

Over a grand easy, more like 13-1500 in today's climate (also varies by location).

Whoever parted with 3k+ on that one back in July 4th must’ve indulged a little too much in the red white and “brew” that day…
That gun was polished and a non pinned or recessed variant, worth no more than $800 in my eyes given the non original finish. My apologies OP if you were the buyer and my opinion offends you. In original condition and not “breathtaking bright stainless finish” aka mother’s mag polished, I would be a buyer potentially under 1k.

I'm a little lost here. How do you know it was purchased July 4th for $3000? Don't mean to sound dense about it. Just curious how you know, not sure your info is correct. Thanks

It’s against forum rules to post Gunbroker/Auction links when they are live but since the auction closed July 4th, I’ll just post the link.
1998 Smith Wesson 66 Pre-Lock 2.5" *BREATHTAKING BRIGHT STAINLESS FINISH!* - Revolvers at GunBroker.com : 903524213
PS: Some well known GB sellers on the forums are consistent with their photo taking and advertisements. The picture you posted was a screen shot of the gun from this auction, which looked like a familiar seller. A quick search for completed items from this seller turned up this auction which completed July 4th for 3k+.

Either it’s a scam (most likely) or the seller is having buyers remorse and is trying to recoup some funds after he or she realized they paid more than triple what the gun is actually worth.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Ask the seller to send you a photo of the gun with his/her driver’s license legible.

I think there was actually a thread on this auction around the time of completion. Absurd money for that gun.
Odds are it's a scam. Nobody who paid that is going to take 1/3 of what they paid for it.
