I am hoping that fellow forum members can advise me if someone makes moon clips for the S&W Model 627-5, with the eight round cylinder. If so, who might be the most affordable source for the clips? Members opinions on how well the moon clips work for the new eight rounder are appreciated too. Thanks, Waistgunner

Well I just got back from the PSA shootout and I used my 627 in that comp. and I used moon clips to speed reload.I wish my shooting had been as fast as my reloads. I buy from als custom and Brownells because I get a discount there. Both have good moon clips. Having said that, I am going to recommend the moon clip tool from mooncliptool.com It is a little pricy, but very useful.

Thanks Revolver_King, that is what I needed to know. I have an old Brazilian 1917 that uses moon clips, and I understand how those clips hold the cartridges. I did buy a casing removing tool for that one too. How do the moon clips for non-auto, straight cased .357 rounds hold them in the clip?

I have used the Ranch Products moonclips which cost ca $75 per 100. You can get their phone number form their website and call them to order. You cannot order the moonclips from the Ranch products websire (at least the last time I looked). They work well with all the brass I hace tried except Starline - the Starline brass is too loose in their moonclips.
Is your 627-5 relieved for the moonclip[s? If not you will have to have the cylinder relieved for the moonclips.

Thanks for the photos, referrals, and advice, gents. The cylinder is recessed and I can therefore go ahead and get a batch of moon clips for the 627-5. Waistgunner
