S&W 657 no dash 4 inch bbl
Yes at a LGS... $700 + tax. Chrome trigger and hammer. I didn't see a thing wrong with it. So.... talked him down to $700 flat.. but banks closed today...
Tomorrow!! I gave him my word (he knows me) and he picked it up for me. Comes with S&W wood stocks.. large target I guess..
Now after getting my S&W 60-2 and that 60-4... I need to STOP THIS!!!
But I just could not pass it up.

Not being noisy but can you give me the name of the store and your friends name. Just want to see if I might know him. I only hear of those deals, so far in my life time have never been involved in one. I would even throw my left testicle in on that deal. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I pawn shop a lot... sometimes I find deals like...
5 days ago.. Cold Steel First edition Outdoorsman knife. $54.43 tax inc. And a Tasco Galaxysee telescope for $5 (one of the gears is missing... I'm working on that now) and the lens is quite clear as I looked at Jupiter last night.
I once found a Randall 1-5 knife... $17.02. Lecia 10x42 binoculars.. $35, M1 Carbine (National Postal Meter) $340, tax inc.
Of course a few times I got my fingers burned to... but that is just part of the game of sniffing around (I'm retired.. I can sniff around every day or so.)

Great addition to the Family
You just do not see too many 4" 657s with the exception of the Mountain Guns. Factory Targets are the grips it would have shipped with

Those roof prism Leica binoculars are my favorite
Years before we all started using this Internet thingy, I made friends with all the Pawn Shop owners around my Uncle's Gun Shop and Range. It is amazing what they forget about in the safes for 5 or 10 years. Plus, they sold me many non-functional guns really cheap

Very nice find. Wish I would not have let my 657 Classic Hunter go.

You did well.
I have never owned a 41 but every one I ever shot I liked. I really cannot explain a lapse of judgement like that.
I used to prowl pawn shops too. Found some deals and found a few turkeys too. Goes with the territory I suppose.

Ok... here she is! Now the front sight ... some gent put a white insert (it is not factory.) I suspect it came without any insert and he didn't like the plain back sight.. no biggie. I can get an original plain front sight and replace it. The trick will be taking the pin out... and that will take a jig made to keep everything in alignment.
I'm thinking Clark's Custom Guns in Louisiana.. I can actually drive there. We will see! But I took the stocks off and everything is perfect.

The white ramp was probably put in there by someone like me who like to be able to actually see the front sight. LOL
If it were mine it would stay but it ain't mine.

Try the white front sight before replacing it, you may find it very useful.

Nice 657. I have a 29 no dash that someone put a white insert on. I absolutely love it. I’d just shoot that 41 and not worry about the sight.

Indeed, give it a try! It might be wonderful under some light conditions.
Of course, to improve it for other tastes, you might simply try some red nail polish on it.

I thought about that to. Or they have these red insert kits you can by and I could turn it into a red insert!
I'll try it this weekend. I'm about to reload some ammo for it (and a few other toys!) This weekend I sight in for deer season.

I'll save you the expense and hassle of messing with that front sight. I'll give you ... oh, $750 for it as it sits.

I would keep that front sight. Try it you just might like it ! And if you don’t swap out the white insert for red or another color and doesn’t require removing the blade. There are kits readily available.

I would chuck that white sight as quick as I could. since it is pinned, I would replace it with a flat black patridge sight OR one with a gold bead!!

I don’t need any more magnum revolvers but at that price I most certainly would have been a buyer for that 4-inch 657. Certainly a good deal, IMO, front sight notwithstanding. Congrats on your new .41 Magnum.
Yes, give that white insert a try before you replace it. You can buy a replacement black ramp or red insert front sight or two and keep them in reserve for later, just in case. It can be changed out any time. You might like the white insert better than you think.

Sorry if not the right place to ask this question but has anyone ever seen a 629-3 chambered in 41 Magnum? Thanks

I sold a 657 4" for over twice that. Of course I wish I had kept it but it was so nice I didn't want to shoot it. I've got several other 41 mags to keep me happy.

Welcome to the S&W Forums! A model 629 would be a stainless steel 44 Magnum revolver. If a 629 were to be found chambered in 41 Magnum, it would either be an incorrectly marked revolver, which does happen, or someone decided they really wanted a 41 Magnum and swapped the barrel and cylinder. If you are in possession of such a thing, I recommend starting a new thread.
