I'm already on the lookout for an original set. I sent the company that made them a email also to see if there's a old set available.

I second the idea of putting a set of Ken’s stags on that 4”. I think the case color would go very nice with a little bark.
Here’s my M1917 with a set from Ken.

I’ve got a two digit serial number TR 22-4 and a blued, 3” Lew Horton 25-14. Both are excellent revolvers however the 3” is my favorite. Besides the shorter barrel it’s nice have adjustable sights for the times I switch to 185gr. Loads instead of the usual 230gr.

Beautiful revolvers. I too like a 45ACP revolver, do they make a 45ACP in semiauto too? That would be a pretty keen handgun!

Two very nice additions to the Family
A 2 1/2" Night Guard for concealed carry and one of the 4" Color Case Hardened model 22s for more Formal occasions
Although it serves no purpose, I like that the Heritage series frames added that fourth side plate screw to the revolver. It gives it a bit of a retro look

I also like the Model 22. I have always liked serial numbers and I admit I got lucky with this one.
My Thunder Ranch Revolver Model 22 is serial numbered TRR0022
I am still waiting to get lucky on one of the CCH Model 22s like boatswainsmate just picked up.

I thought the Thunder Ranch was 44 Spl. Did they make those in 45 ACP also?

Never bought a Smith in 45 ACP or 45 Colt as I wanted something that could handle stout loads on a regular basis.... but....
Bought a Blackhawk 7.5" 45 Convertible back around '80.
Trigger spring broke, not long after, and I spoke with a Smith at Ruger.
We chatted about grip/stock/guitar making and he said he'd send some out asap.
I asked him if I could send it back as it seemed to be shaving a bit of lead.
IIRC, I said I'd put some slab 1911 grips in the box as a thank you and admitted I was fibbing about the lead.
He laughed and said, no trigger job, but I'll make it shoot great.
Got the gun back, soon after, with a target that he shot Bullseye style at 50 yds.
Impressive would not come close to his skill.
I only bought that 45 as a bullet puller for some 45ACP loads that made my Colt GM ring like a bell.
Put a stainless grip frame on recrntly and the balance is wunderbar.
One day I'll run into a Smith in 45ACP, hopefully shopping with the grandkids, in the Rockies.

As noted in the article linked by boatswainmate there are two Thunder Ranch models. The 21-4 is chambered in .44 special. The 22-4 is in 45 ACP.

.45 ACP Revolvers
This 625-3 3” went to the range with me this afternoon. The smooth trigger and gold dot front sight were done by gunsmith Mike Larocca.

Not really. You have posted a fair representation of the Model 1917. The revolver in question is the Model 1950, a short action version of the Model 1917. It was offered as the Model 1950, 45 ACP Target with adjustable sights and the Model 1950 45 ACP Army with fixed sights. Total production of either one never topped 4000.

Beautiful revolvers! I have two of the Model 22s, one TRR and one over run / standard offering.
That short barreled one is new to me. What is it?

That would be a Model 325 Night Guard that is pictured there
There were more than half a dozen Night Guard models. All had 2 1/2" barrels, Scandium alloy frames, Extreme Duty rear sights, plus more
I have three Night Guards, there is a 310NG, 327NG and a 357NG in the picture below
Thanks to the Scandium alloy, these 2 1/2" N-frames weigh in less than a snub nosed Model 19, 66 or similar
The early ones shipped with the Pachmayr Compac grips which is a favorite of mine. boatswainsmate's 325NG is wearing the newer grip that these shipped with
There are quite a few threads on the Forum regarding these fine carry guns

What's the revolver in question? I thought we were discussing .45ACP revolvers in general. If there's a S&W with a better claim to being the original .45ACP revolver than a 1917, I'm all ears.

Not by me. Fortunately S&W made something for everybody.
.
S&W started out with six different Night Guard models: 329NG, 325NG, 327NG, 396NG, 386NG & 315NG.
They later added the 310NG & 357NGs, for their brief run.
.
396NG - 357NG - 329NG - 325NG
.

To be honest, I've never cared much for a .45acp revolver. Or for that matter, any revolver chambered in a semi-auto cartridge. I much prefer my .45acps out of a 1911. But that's just me.
However, I do own one .45acp revolver. A 1962 Model 25-2. I shoot this almost exclusively with 200gr SWC target loads. As a target gun its absolutely outstanding! After all, that's what it was built for.
Otherwise, my .45 revolvers are in .45 Colt.

Have a 25-2 in 45 ACP, and a 25-5 in 45 colt. Both guns have the boxes, paperwork, and have the 3 T's. Either gun shoots great, and both very accurate . Love those N frame's !

They are Pachmayr "American Legend" stocks/grips. You can order them online from several different places.

Don’ t forget Ruger Blackhawks with 2 cylinders, my 4 5/8’s with 45 ACP cylinder groups very well, of course not as good as 25-2 or match 1911A-1.

I'm a big fan of 45acp revolvers, but because this is the post-1980 forum, I'm showing the only one that's appropriate, a 625-2, Model of 1988. Buying this one was a step out for me because most of my S&W revolvers have a pin in the barrel and are 60+ years old. My other 45's are a models 1950, 1955 and two WWI 1917's, a Smith and a Colt. I bought the 625 several years ago on an auction site thinking my low bid would not hold up, but it did, and I ended up with an unexpectedly great gun.

The Thunder Ranch 44 S&W Special is the revolver with the crest boldly emblazoned on the side plate. When they introduced the Model in 45 ACP they lost that crest as it was not favored by many purchasers.

To the OP what are those grips on that case hardened beauty and where can I get a set??. Haven't seen a case hardened Frame like that. Beautiful revolver thanks for sharing. Frank
Not sure about the grips. The past owner carved an opening for the square butt edge.

Those are the Jerry Miculek grips that are manufactured by Hogue.
Hogue offers them in various woods.
They are also available from Jerry Miculek's website. The ones that JM sells directly have the JM logo on the sides and have the Factory cutout for access to the strain screw
The same grips are pictured in post #35 above. Oldsalt66's revolver is wearing the red white and blue version of those grips that Smith & Wesson used on one of the 625 Performance Center offerings.
Here are the same grips on the Model 327JM

"Like it too but not the grips."
Those were older Miculek grips on the longer barreled revolver. Maybe they are not aesthetically pleasing to some but they are "pretty is as pretty does." Ambidextrous, comfortable to shoot all day (even with magnums), great for quick presentation from a holster, etc. I could go on; don't underestimate the design.

I like them too. Unfortunately S&W seemly hates putting four-letter words on their barrels so .45 Colt S&Ws are a rarer commodity.
But I was lucky enough to find one I especially like.
Also, I converted a spare cylinder for my 325TR to chamber it in my 45WSM round, a Schofield length .45 Win Magnum case, for a tad more powder capacity (25.6%) than the 45ACP.
