I had a blue one and let it go like a dummy! I also had a 24-3 4" worked over by the 300Gunsmith shop in Denver and let it go years ago. I just love the .44sp. Also owned a 696 no dash that I recently traded for a 5" 27-2 NIB. I still own a 4" bright blue 1950 Target.

Let's not leave out the late model LH 3" 44's

You probably recognize the stock maker on these...

I hate these kind of posts because it makes me remember all the nice lew horton guns I stupidly sold off over the years.

You guys drive a hard bargain, but "I'll take them"

Great looking six-guns in this thread.

Default M-624 Holsters

I hope all of you also picked up the S&W Factory Holsters for these fine 3 inchers when they were available.

Images shown were for the "left hand" stainless steel version and produced in much smaller numbers than the right hand versions.

Also attached is a pic of the label that appeared on the holster packaging.

A different configuration with a belt loop was available for the blued versions.

Nothing sweeter than a .44 Spl revolver IMO, such a classic and often under-appreciated cartridge.

This is the one for the blued 3" M24-3's.... a conventional high ride belt holster. For actual use, I like the ones for the 3" 624's much better... so I ended up with both styles.

This ad sure does make one wish that you can gather up a bunch at the original price... lol!

Man, those Culina grips on the OP's gun are show stoppers!!

Agreed. The holster for the 624 carries much better, but I have both too.

I sold mine as well. Sometimes I wish I'd have kept it, but I've had far too many expensive toys over the years to keep them all.

That's one interesting animal in that picture. Pinned bull barrel with ejector shroud well short of the production variant. Seeing as how the ad pre dates photoshop, I'd guess it was made, and it's now in one of Doc44's safes.

I've never seen the ad for the 24-3. That is odd that they show a pic of the pinned bull barrel. About as odd as the statement on the 624 ad claiming a 'N frame with a K size round butt grip', which I know not to be true.

I love the look of the later square- butt 3" guns, and would jump on one if it came my way. I have 4" and 6.5" 24-3s.

I never noticed those discrepancies in that 24-3 Lew Horton ad... that is indeed very strange!!

I wonder of Lew Horton used a pre-production sample for the pic?

Lots of beauties posted here. Love 'em.

However, I've been thinking of getting out of the .44 Special business.

I have one Lew Horton 24-3 (3" barrel) with a superb action/trigger, one Ruger old model Blackhawk converted to .44 Spec (probably the smoothest/sweetest single action/trigger I've ever felt), and one Ruger New Model .44 Spec (Lipsey's) which I had engraved (also with action/trigger job).

Not really a big mystery.
I'm a Graphic Designer and it's totally foreseeable how their art department or ad agency was simply given the wrong stats on the actual gun supplied for the photo and it wasn't caught until after it was already printed (and possibly distributed) and it was way cheaper to explain (to the few that noticed) the discrepancies than reprinting everything, especially back then.
Mystery solved. lol
