My wife and I just bought our oldest son's college graduation gift, a S&W .44 mag, Model 29-3, nickel plated with a 6" barrel. He will be hunting deer with this gun. Any scope recommendations? Thanks.

To tell you the truth, that scope is for sale, Now that I figured out where I put it. I sold the gun. I bought it to go wild bore hunting. I went I shot a wild bore and now that is over. I really am not a hunter, but thought I would try it once. Pop mean e-mail if you are interested. The scope is great and has life time warranty.

Second that on the Burris. Here is mine, it holds up to the recoil of a .460.

You cannot go wrong there.

K.

I won't own anything but a Leupold.

I know other brands are decent, but I am a hunter, and have owned all kinds of scopes. In my opinion, nothing holds up like Leupolds do. Their sight picture is bright, and clearer than most others, and goes right out to the edge of the scope. When you look through one, you don't see the big black circle around the field of vision that is so common on other brands, even on good ones, and they have the fastest service I have ever experienced for any product, gun related or not.

I have never had one of their scopes go bad, but I have bought several used ones knowing that they would fix them if anything was wrong. I bought one that someone had dinged the objective bell on, and I wanted to be sure that nothing else was wrong, so I sent it to them. It took two day to get there, they fixed it on the day it arrived, and shipped it the same day. I had it back in two days from then. A total of less than 5 full days. That is fast service, and all for free. I own a boatload of their scopes, and that is one reason why. They have about the best eye relief available on their rifle scopes, which is needed on heavy caliber/hard recoiling rifles.

I have one of their 2XEER scopes on my .475 Linebaugh, which due to it's lighter weight, kicks as hard, or harder than the .460, and .500 due to their porting and weight.

No one will ever convince me that anything else is even close, even if it costs twice as much. Period. YMMV

Thanks Tim. Our rifles all sport Leupold scopes. (I consider one of my best finds to be a Leupold fixed 3X scope I bought for fifty bucks from a retired hunter. The scope is old, but it's bright and clear.)

This is my Thompson Center 2.5-7 power 28mm scope. It is specifically designed for high power handguns, such as their Contender. I am very please with it to date.

I've never been too crazy about scopes on handguns but the Red dot sights or small Holographic can be fun, and since a .44Mag is a big game round I would think one of those might work better than a scope. It is sure hard to hold a scoped handgun steady if the magnification is over 2X.

+1 on Tim's post. I have two 2x Leupold eer and have had two others on 44s that I have sold. In addition to all the attributes that Tim mentioned, they are the lightest weight handgun scope on the market.

The Leupold Scopes are impossible to beat but your son might be just as well off with one of the Red Dot Sights as long as he shoots enough to know the gun and scope combination.
