No love at the pawn shop lol
Stopped by one of the shops I regularly visit. The only thing of interest was a 4" 66-2 they transferred in from one of their other locations. I would call it about 90% as there were some dings along the opening in the cylinder window at the top, some scuffs here and there, didn't look like the screws had been turned or the sideplate removed.
The grips were in pretty decent shape, it was very dirty though the forcing looked good from what I could tell.
The sales guy said it was originally priced at $1600 at their other shop, they had it at $1100 but said they could "probably" go to $1000. Just the revolver, nothing else. I passed.
I know in some parts of the country you gentleman have much more reasonable pawn shops but around the Denver metro area I haven't seen it in a long time.

That’s ridiculous and why it’s probably been sitting for months.

And the reason he's willing to drop SIXTY per-cent off his price.
Sounds like a 600 dollar gun as a shooter, if that. It will never have any collectibility.
Gotta love the pawn shops. Guessing he paid 200 or 250 for it, explaining what "terrible condition" it was in.

Walked into a shop in Havelock NC year’s ago and found a very rough Marlin Model 21 or 24 pump. Thinking they had a couple hundred on it. Bad wood, no finish, pump handle was disconnecting from the bolt, etc. I offered 50.00 figuring the mainspring and firing pin were worth 25.00 each and was told hell no, that shotgun was ‘collectible’. I left. Pawn shops are sometimes run by delusional people, but they must make money somehow.

The problem is the majority of shops are getting their price.I saw a real rough official police for $700 at my local gun shop/range and the guy behind the counter said they just took it in and that it will probably be gone by tomorrow. The reason I tend to believe him is that anytime I see a revolver at this store it is always gone when I come back to shoot and the story's always the same we sold it in 2 or 3 days. This is totally opposite pre gun run and pandemic when I saw reasonably priced decent model 10s sitting on the same shelf at this store for 5 and 6 months.

In the the pawn shops around here revolvers have gone extinct. Always the same story, "when we get them they don't last long".

One thing you have to remember, Pawn Shops don't make the most profit from firearms. Their big money is made on jewelry and interest. Guns are used to get people in the door. I know several managers and they say "like motorcycles, there is a seat for everyone on every bike no matter what the price". In Pawn shops unless you know the manager and he cuts you a deal, their philosophy is there is someone with no knowledge of firearms that will pay the price because they think the gun is cute or their Dad, uncle, etc says this type of firearm is great. I have made lots of smoking deals at pawnshops, but I stop so often the managers know me and will deal because I pay cash and don't do lay-a-way for 6 months.

UPdate: After returning from the gunshow today I stopped in a pawn shop I frequent and the manager asked if I wanted a bunch of excess gun rugs and boxes. I looked thru the boxes and they all were from current firearms. S&W, H&K, Taurus, Glock etc. I looked in the boxes and they all had the paperwork, extra (sometimes 2) magazines (total of 33 mags), Tools and grip adapters. One Gun rug Had a Thompson Contender barrel, colt grips and a Ruger .22 cylinder. I ask how much, He said make offer, I said 33 mags $5.00 ea = $165, he said make it $175 tax included. I bought them all.

$1100 is still way too much for a worn Model 66-2. Based on the given info, it's priced at almost double what it is worth.

The days of cheap used guns like a S&W Model 66 is over for the most part. Inflation, the pandemic panic, and the general market have made them higher priced guns. Especially after how 2020 ended with riots and perceived or actual lack of enforcement and prosecution of criminals.
Guns are flying off the shelves at record high prices, both new and used.
Yes, things have slowed down a little bit, but in the grand scheme of things. That doesn't mean much. This is going to be to new normal for a while.

I agree with the above values on a model 66, however there have been numerous 4” that went for $1000+ on GB in the last year. Add tax and shipping of $100 more. A snub will bring several hundred more. I don’t see it, but very soon $1000 for a pre-lock 66 or 686 might just be the norm. Any LGS around here that puts a 66 snub out for less than $1k will sell it in 24 hours.

I HEAR or have heard of real deals at pawn palaces, but that's never been my experience.
If it's nearly ANY firearm not currently manufactured, then it's a "scarce, rare collectible".
If it's a S&W or Colt - anything, it's priced like it's the Ark of the Covenant.
Gotten where I rarely waste the time to stop and look at these places anymore.

Same here. 2 out of 10 guns I have purchased have been from Pawn shops...most were very good buys and almost always at less than the price on the tag.

As mentioned above, the key to doing well with pawnshops (and LGSs for that matter) is getting to know the manager/owner. Building a history with them that says when you make an offer you'll follow through with cash if they accept. . .and won't be hassling them with "returns" later. After awhile they'll be calling you.

As noted above, a personal relationship is important. End of last year I was walking into one of my favorite LGS and the assistant manger said, "Hey Bob, we just got in a bunch of estate guns, check these out." I got a 1902 Military automatic and a really nice WWI era 32-20 target before they hit the shelf.

Even if you don't know the folks by name, they recognize your face when you frequent alot. If you are a straight shooter and friendly, it goes a long way when you ask for a better price.

My favorite pawnshop in Enid, Oklahoma had a copy of my C&R license. And always cut me a fair deal on military rifles. Too bad that the last time I stopped in it turned into a pot shop.

Thats silly, one local shop I frequent some times gets old revos in... I picked up a 66-3 for about 6 beans... I stopped in there about a week before Thanksgiving they had a 681 in the case at 1200$ it still remains....
I dont really care for the shop as they seem rather prudent like they know everything... clearly they know nothing...

So today I'm poking around on Facebook, and a post from a local pawn shop pops up with a series 70 colt, just in.
I message him to ask him to tell me more about it. He quoted a price I said I'll take it.
I go to the shop to fill out the paperwork, and he takes $50 off the price without me even asking.
So 800 out the door for this nice looking coat 1911 government modelz

Admittedly Pawn Shops are not the same as.....
as a few years ago. The big national or regional stores don't haggle, or at least offer minimal flexibility.
There are still little ones, but you really need to look for them, up here in the greater Seattle there are still some.
Had a Dr.'s appt a couple months back and decided take a ride north on 99 (Aurora) and found a little store, that had lots of older rifles up on the wall, I mean up near the ceiling and obviously not for sale.
The counter that did have some stuff just had some junk, a nice Victory model with an asking price of $1,299 (didn't even ask to touch it, too much moola).
But, studying his shelves I noticed a 59xx magazine, asked to see it and it's a standard capacity, asked the dude helping me and he shrugged and said "how about $10?"
So, I hemmed and hawed a bit and then noticed another mag that was near it, it looked like a M39 mag with steel follower, he showed it to me and then said "how about $20 for both, out the door?"
OK, and I reluctantly dug out a $20 and gave it to him and left before anybody came out the back room to sort this employee out....
So, you can run into some stuff, but from a firearms standpoint, it's been pretty much slim pickens for some time up here.

Four months ago I bought an unfired in the box model 66 off from gunbroker for 806 bucks. She's a P&R 4" gun with box, papers, and target grips.

That is the way I roll. Found a little store in N GA last year that had about 8 6906 12 round mags. I think my brother and I bought all of them for something like $10 each, or maybe $12, don't remember exactly. I also have a nice stash of 3913/3906/39 mags (yeah I know they are different, but all work in my 3913) probably averaging $10 each. Most of the stores don't know what they are for and have had them for years sitting in boxes. They are glad to get them out the door.

For me pawn shops are no different than a LGS, sometimes you find a deal and sometimes you don’t. My last 3 nice pawn shop deals:
6/2020 2.5” 19-5 with bananas $530
11/21 Leupold VX3 8.5-25 with Leupy sunshade and rings as new
Shoei helmet bundled with scope $600 as new
12/31/21 Guncrafter NN $2300 complete with soft case, docs, both OEM mags 98%

I came across a Colt Custom Comp at a Pawn Shop with no magazines & the rear sight was missing + had a Wilson Scope Mount with it $600
removed the charging handle & put a BoMar rear sight & bought a magazine & later sold it for a huge profit
I didn't buy it to resale

My experience is that prices for older quality revolvers have been gradually rising since safe t lock got hold of Smith and defiled the revolvers......in 2006 ( I think) I had two 25-2s in the wood boxes at once, and got starry eyed over something- M1A, I believe- and traded both. Shop allowed me 500 each on trade, turned around and sold them for about 650 as I recall. And it weren't no thing at that time. Today I'd take out a bank loan to buy as many as I could find at 500......hell, at 650 for that matter. The longer it gets from the beginning of the IL era, the fewer prelocks are out there and the more worn they get. So any nice ones appreciate more. Which then drag the the worn ones in their wake. All same same Colt revolvers, altho Colts went up further and faster.....
You're right the bug had a dramatic affect ( frankly, the summer of riots, arson and murder didn't help) on prices of guns in general, and revolvers in particular.

I used to live in a city about 75 miles from here. The pawnshops were the best places to find nice guns. The better they got to know you, the more likely you'd get a good deal. The best I ever got was a pre-64 Winchester model 50 12ga. It had been painted green. They sold it to me for $89. I cleaned the paint off and flipped it for a profit.
In this town, pawn shops barely sell guns, and if they do it'd used Taurus and Jennings at NIB prices. We do have a couple full service gun shops that are very nice places to do business.

That's the kind of thing I'd go to gunshows looking for in the late 90s, at the peak of the "hicap" mag ban....Sig 226 mags, Beretta 92 mags...bought at least a half dozen Mini 14 factory 20s and 30s for 10-15 bucks cause I think the guys selling them thought they were just another AR mag....

I go to the shop to fill out the paperwork, and he takes $50 off the price without me even asking.
So 800 out the door for this nice looking coat 1911 government modelz

My only pawn shop purchase was a Spreewerk (cyq) P38. The shop was in Denver, I walked in, paid $40 cash and took it with me. Brought it back to St. Louis in my carry on bag on Frontier Airlines. Admittedly, this was in 1967. The good old days.
