Newly Acquired Used 686-6
Back from a long hiatus into revolvers with this beauty. Hopefully she is a keeper! So far I’ve ended up getting rid of every revolver I’ve bought because I just can’t get used to them - gonna really try to like this one.
Serial is CZN7XXX, anyone know roughly when this may have left the factory? Looks to be in great shape.

The L frame .357s are some of the best made, IMO. And a 3 inch barrel is just about perfect on one. Get some snap caps and work with the trigger to loosen it up a bit. I think you'll like it if you give it a chance.

Congratulations on acquiring an excellent jack-of-all-trades revolver. Make changes to grips and ammo as needed, to tweak for purpose.

You sir just made an excellent choice! There is zero doubt, you have the best revolver made period. Yes, it's a keeper. I happen to own one as well and trust me after some range time you will love it like I do. Get yourself a really good holster and carry it! Mine is the 686 Plus 4" barrel deluxe 7 shot pictured below.

Well, there is a 3", a 4", so there needs to be a 5". 686-6 Pro Series 7 shot. 1 of my favorites! Bob

Thanks!! Went out and put 100 rounds through it today with some VZ checkered G10 grips on it. Don’t like them as they’re too aggressive. Bought some Altamont Altai grips and will try again next week. My hands still hurt 😂
I will say that the revolver is a sweet shooter.

Is dry fire without snap caps highly inadvisable?

Beautiful! Really like the barrel on that model. Mine is a 7 shot also, I didn't know the pro series was as well. Bet you get all the looks at the range

I'm a big fan of the 686 especially the 6 shot 2 1/2" 686-4 but they require a grip that fits your hand for a good day at the range.
I tried a bunch and in the end the Hogue Bantum grips won 1st place.
I stick with 148gr wadcutters and 158 LSWC for punching holes in paper.
If I carry the 686 then it's 135gr Short Barrel Gold Dots
The Pachmayr grips are not to my liking. The 686 felt awkward in my hands with them on.

Well, many will say it is fine to do it. Personally, I don't like dry firing any of my guns because repeatedly slamming the metal parts together without something to buffer it just doesn't feel right to me. Why do it when there are other alternatives? Take care of your gun and it will be ready to take care of you.
Since we are on the topic, here is a pic of my BBQ grade 686-4+. It has a 2.5" barrel and wears custom stocks by John Culina and checkered by our very own 44magget.
And this is my 3 inch 686-6+ like yours. I use the smooth VZ combat grips (I added the medallions) and it also has Meprolight night sights. It is my woods gun when I don't feel the need for something in .44 Caliber.
