Default Any Idea On This Box?

Hello, I recently picked up this absolutely gorgeous 27-2 in an interesting box. I don’t think it’s factory, but its so nicely made and I’m not the most knowledgeable on these. Did someone make this? If so they did a great job. There’s initials (?) on the outside, MGG, small stampings near the inside of the hinges that say 27, 357, and 142 (?). It’s red velvet on the inside.

Let me know what you all think!

Very nice box, but I have never seen a "factory" box like it.

I think this box is factory made, but not the S&W factory. You know what the SW 27 and 357 mean. The 142 probably indicates a box model number. Looks like pieces of light oak glued together and planed to the proper thickness. The routed edges are beautifully done. Those barrel hinges take the right tools and an experienced hand to do as well as they are. The initials on the cover look perfectly aligned. I'd think maybe a specialty wood working shop like the ones making flag display cabinets/boxes would do something like this. Very fitting for a S&W Revolver.
