Default S&W 63-5 .22

I bumped into a real nice J frame 3 inch .22.

A 63-5 (Hillary Lock) .22 rimfire 8 shooter. Has a red 'pipe' style front sight.

They are offering it to me for $650 OTD.

Looks new... has VZ boot grips to boot. Bit heavy but it is all stainless steel!

Now what are your experiences with this all steel .22?

Looks just like this one below but with the VZ grips.

I’ve had the 4” model for years, hundreds of rounds and wouldn’t take any amount of money for it. We use it as my wife’s house gun. Keep it, shoot it & enjoy.

I have the 4 inch 63 and a 5 inch 63-4. I've been meaning to add one of the 3 inch ones but haven't come across one. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the -5. Price seems reasonable. Enjoy.

For $650 OTD, you can't afford not to get it.

I've had my 3" 63-5 for several years, now.
Very nice little jewel of a gun.

Slapped a lay-away on it. $100. Yes tax inc. $650.

Oh, the original pouch and original grips (along with the VZ grips) come with it. The VZs look like these.

My 63-5 3" has a permanent spot in my rangebag. I love the way it handles, smooth DA trigger pull and great SA trigger. My 613 3" is almost as nice, but the weight of the 63-5 makes it handle better than the 317. I also have the VZ grips in blue on my 63-5.

Ok, I got it out of hock. Went to the range. Now with Remington 'Goldens' it is very accurate. Right where the sights point.

But it has very sticky extraction.

I plan on cleaning the gun very well, then with brass .22 bore brush really clean the chambers and then with some Fritz and tight fitting 'Q' tips (and a electric drill) polish the chambers some.

Then I will refire again this week.

I am pretty sure I can get the extraction to be normal.. and the accuracy allowed me to shoot standing, leaning against a poll, and hit tin cans at 25 yards consistently! So it will be worth my effort to get this gun running 100 percent.

There is plenty of info on Reaming the Chambers here on the Forum should you need to go that route. A relatively easy job and works well if it comes down to it.

I have had a M63 4” SB for many years now-still in pristine condition. Used to be my squirrel gun while out Pheasant hunting. Great little shooter!

The 63-5 is an excellent .22 handgun. I looked at the 3" 8-shot Model 317, the 4", 10-shot 617 and the 3" 8-shot 63-5. They were all the same price. The 317 was too light, the 617 too heavy, but the 63-5 felt just right.
