Default Model 27-3 4 inch

Hello folks,
I wanted to share my latest acquisition with you today. Found it a few weeks ago at the LGS. A very well kept model 27-3. Checkered top strap, target hammer, trigger and stocks. 4 inch half-lugged barrel. White outline rear site with a red ramp front. 6 shot cylinder. After I checked for push off (none) end shake (tight) and lockup (perfect) I swung a deal to take it home. No box.

I’ve already brought it to the range a couple of times and it shoots great with a variety of my .38 special and .357 reloads. I’m quite delighted to own this gun. My first 4” N frame.

Can someone help with a date? The stocks have no washers inside them and the right panel is dated Dec 5 1986. AVF serial prefix. I hope my picture does it some justice. Please feel free to share your opinions and your pictures of model 27s!

Great find............... I have a 4" transition -3 recessed cylinder but not a pinned barrel.....in about +90% condition.

FYI until 1980 4" 27s were special order only.
Before 1980 27s were cataloged with 3 1/2, 5,6 and 8 ?/8 inch barrels. (6 1/2" ?????)
The 4 inch was cataloged the same year the 586/686 was introduced and IIRC production ended in 1990. So a lot of interest in something bigger than a K frame went to the new L-frame.

So 4" 27s are the least common barrel length.
