Default Black model 66

I have a BLACK model 66 no dash marked CSP ( Ct state police I believe) was blackened at S&W factory.
My question is does anyone know what process they used at factory to blacken this stainless steel gun?

It was more like blueing, not like melonite. They did some 686 revolvers with that process later, and they called it Midnight Black, or something like that, when they did the 686 run. Not particularly durable, although if the finish wore through, you still had stainless steel.

Craig. You are correct. Connecticut State police. From what I know last of their issued revolvers. Nice grab. You would print these pics to display with it if you want. I bought at a gun show for friend whose Dad was a trooper.
