Got a question, what do you guys think of the VZ G10 grips? I don’t like the rubbers that are on my 617. I have a set of these on my 625 but wish they were thicker.

I happen to have the same on my 617- just a different color. For me, it works well. I use my 617 in local ASI matches and never had a problem with this grip either from the holster or table start.

I'm a big fan of G10 grips in general. Very durable, solvent and oil resistant, and usually excellent grip or feel.

I picked up my pretty revolver today and right off the bat am having light hammer strikes. One to three 550 box federals were failing to fire but do eventually fire. Took the sideplate off and it was very dry so I oiled it and tried again, still light strikes. Swapped out the mainspring with some spares, no improvement. Had a few long strain screws in my parts box and tried one tight with the grips that were on the gun and the trigger was horrible. Got to looking and those grips have a huge internal boss for the grip screw. That was putting the mainspring into a big bind with a longer strain screw screwed in tight. I temporarily replaced the grips with a set of butt boot grips that almost fit. I also removed the long blued strain screw with the shorter factory screw with a fired primer between the screw and mainspring. Eureka! Just fired 2 cylinders worth with no problems. Thinking a combination of not enough strain screw pressure and grips being in the way. I might try to replace the mim stuff, wondering if a solid steel hammer would make a difference. Just ordered a model 17 hammer off ebay, we’ll see.

Been messing with and have it firing all ten rounds. I replaced the trigger return and trigger with non mim parts. Waiting on a M17 hammer to experiment with. Of course I will have to remove the silly lock. I have a steel gun safe to ‘lock’ my firearms in but I guess if you didn’t have a real safe it could be an important feature. Here’s what the last 10 look like, the lower strikes are from DA firing while the upper indents are from me DA dry firing them. There is a spp without the anvil on the strain screw with the screw 1/4 turn away from tight.

It doesn’t take a lot of mainspring power to fire a .22 rimfire. How’s the firing pin protrusion from the frame? Mine has a couple thousand rounds through it with zero misfires. Headspace okay? No endshake? I’m supposing this is a new revolver.

I have those stocks on my 340pd and 327pc. I like that they are short and compact. Personally I think they look small on 617

Did some radical mods to my 617. Experimented with a coiled spring for a hammer spring. The disc is teflon, the rod is ss. There is a very small bearing in the saddle that rides in the curve of the hammer. The spring is making it twist which might be making it rub so I might do another with a slightly larger bearing. Very smooth. The only mim part is the hammer return. I tried several different .22 hammer springs but this is one of the two that came out of my AO 1927a1 Thompson after I put new springs in it. I had to change grips as my spring is in the way of the grip screw. Seems to be 100 % with Winchester M22 and Norma tac2 but still has occasional ftf’s with Federal 550. Doesn’t seem to be spitting as much with the norma or winchester ammo-slightly slower velocity I think.

Just curious, was the stock trigger/action not good?

Was having too many ftf’s with stock springs. Adding extra material to the strain screw helped but also made the action stiffer. Honestly didn’t mess with other ammo then as the Federal 550 runs fine all my other guns. I also didn’t want to mail the darn thing back to Smith. Had to do that with my TR .45 revolver. Wanted to try to ‘fix’ this one myself.

I've had this 617-6 since 2013, (made in 2006), and can probably count the # of FTF's on 1 hand. It has had nothing done to it bur good cleaning and lube.
