586-6 value in trade? For sa 1911?
I have a 586-8 that I'm thinking of trading for a Springfield 1911a. I'm sad that the bluing on the newer models are not that lustrous finish as the older models.
I know this is a sw forum, but being in Cali we don't have many choices.
Yes I have other smiths, 629-4, 686-3, and a pre mod 10.
I also have, rock island 1911a, Colt gm nm, Springfield ro target 9.
Yes I have issues

Not sure about availability of SA 1911s in CA, but if that is a basic/standard model .45 I think your 586 is worth quite a bit more. Of course that is only part of the equation in a trade.

I'd think that value wise they should be about equal, so if you want the 1911, go for it.

Naw, that deal is a loser. I’ve bought same SA 1911 outfit right here on S&W forum last year at $550. You can say price is up but that works both ways. The spread on value on these two guns stays the same. The 586 I should think would be 25% to 35% more as described.

My thought, but wasent sure. List price of a 586 is close to a SA.

Except, I live in cali. The model must be on the state roster. Then i would have to pay about 100 to 150 fees, reg and internet purchase. So that 550 pistol is now 650 to 700 sadly.

This is the way to go, IMO. As you say, tough to get handguns in Cali. You should get above market for that 586 in your state. Then take that money and find a better 1911.

A new SA 1911 can be had for $800 and a new 586 runs about $850. You can get a 686 plus for under $800.
The difference in used values are going to be dependent on condition and how motivated the individuals are more than anything else.

Being in CA is a huge game changer. I'd place the 586 at about $1K and the 1911, since it's a Mil Spec, the most basic model by SA, at about $750 max.

The only 1911s sub 1000 are usually rock island or citadel. Any other brand gets over retail.
We have to pay sales tax and dros fees of about 70.
