Default S&W Model 15-7 Revolver

I recently purchased a S&W mod. 15-7 revolver w/4" barrel. S/N BRL 9808. I'm curious as to the date of manufacture, and if this was a Law Enforcement piece. Any info would be of great help. Thank you all.

Prefix BRL appears to be from late 1994. By that time semi-automatic pistols had pretty much taken over the LE market, so it is unlikely to have been used in that capacity.

Serial number range puts it appox. '93-'94 or so. As far as a law enforcement piece, unless it's marked, you can send for a letter and find out who it was shipped to. Other than that, who knows. I suspect it wasn't as by the time it was made most agencies were done issuing revolvers. But, you never know. I have 2 15's that were used in law enforcement. One is stamped Spokane Police and I bought it in '89 when they transferred to autos. The other gun is not marked in any way, but I personally know 2 law enforcement officers that used this particular firearm. One of them was my father.

Edit: Too slow! As usual someone named Murphy kicked my butt!

The 15-7 is a neat gun as it has the newer wide rib heavy barrel (basicly like a 4" Model 14) .
I have an early one with a square butt grip frame, the stainless counterpart is the 67-3.

Enjoy !
