Here is an unusual Model 586 7-shot PC revolver. It was briefly the subject of an earlier post, after which I purchased it through an auction. It differs from the 586 L Comp as follows.

It is not cut for moonclips, the front sight is a red ramp (as opposed to a tritium front sight), the cylinder is unfluted, the Product Code is 178004, the grips are as shown (as opposed to Altamont boot grips) and numbered by laser-cut numerals to the revolver, the case is a blue plastic case with the S&W Performance Center logo on the outside lid. It is serial numbered RCS000X.

Has anyone else seen one of these or have further information?

I have an L-Comp. Not sure what you go there. I've seen many L-Comps but nothing like you got.

How long have you had it and where did you get it?

Wow, no I have not seen one like that. I am a big 586 fan and that looks great! I guess with the un-fluted cylinder it weights a bit more then my L-Comp. I like it allot!! Thanks for the pictures. Chop

Is there anything about this gun in the newest S&W book? I still only have the 2nd edition.

The PC confirmed that the gun did leave the factory like that. I could not get them to confirm how many were made though.

Cool gun!

I have spoken with someone at Smith & Wesson and I believe as well that this is as it was shipped in 2000.

The only reference to this revolver in the 3rd Edition of the Standard Catalog is the listing in the Performance Center Product Codes section:

178004FC M-586 3" 7 shot

I have all of the papers included with the case (which, in addition to the embossed Performance Center logo on the lid, is different in many other respects from other era blue plastic cases)and even the S&W Master lock.

I would love to have one of them. May be worth getting a factory letter. A rare bird.

What you have is a totally unacceptable semi finished L-comp. Please immediately mail it to me and I will personally see that its deficiencies are corrected at once.

Thanks for your support.

The Highlander

P.S. I really would like one to complement my L-comp. I'd also like to find one of those French GIGN or whatever they were called 4" versions. Nice gun.
