Default 637-2 issue - my curse with used guns continues

I have bad luck with used guns.

Bought a LNIB 637-2 last month. My FFL said the previous owner got it as a replacement gun due to a cracked frame but he didn’t want one with a lock and it looked unfired. So I got it for cheap $400 out the door. Looked brand new.
Had it one day. When dry firing it the cylinder stopped spinning.
Took it back to my FFL who took off the side plate. Gun looked pristine from the outside but it was awful inside - half baked polishing job with scratch marks everywhere. Hand spring was broken. So we sent it in. The factory denied the warranty so sent it to repair - waiting on an invoice to see how much to fix what someone bubba’d.

Years ago got another great deal on a 19-5 trade. But didn’t get a chance to handle it before buying and when it came in there was push off. Had to send that back for repair when the factory used to work on the older guns

Got another deal last year on used 28-2
Thing froze up solid after 12 .38 rounds
Someone did a trigger job but messed up the springs and rebound. Had to get that repaired.

Got a great deal last year on a used LCP Max. Came with an extra magazine and holster. Night site was dim so Ruger sent a replacement - kudos to them. Both front sights seemed off. The darn thing was so inaccurate no one at the range could get it to group worth a damn. Drifted the rear sight as far as it could go but it shot left - had to hold way off target to hit black - my buddy was on several pistol teams professionally and he called it the new Ruger hand shotgun. Different ammo didn’t matter. Sight adjustment didn’t matter.

Got a barely used VP9 two years ago
Ran great with factory ball ammo 115 and 124
Any heavier stuff it jammed
Any reloads even ball it jammed
Very finicky

Last gun I got before this 637-2 was brand new LCP .22
Thing runs great no issues after 300 rounds

Before that my other new gun was a Glock 19 Gen 3
It’s never failed in well over 1000 rounds

Seems I’m cursed with used guns.

Now I do own a 36 no dash, 60 no dash, 66-1 snub and 19-3 all bought used and knock on wood so far no issues but they haven’t been fired much so there’s time for them to mess up!

Anyone else have the curse with used guns and seem to attract lemons?

I have had good luck with used guns, but used cars are another story. If it had no issues they wouldn't have gotten rid of it...

Not necessarily. I’ve gotten rid of guns, not because they had issues, I just didn’t shoot them much or didn’t warm up to them enough to learn to shoot them well.

My suggestion - with your track record, DO NOT marry a divorced woman.

Most of my firearms purchases have been used firearms. Can't say that I've ever been burned.

That’s funny.

My wife and I are coming up on our 29th anniversary. We say we have been married 29 years… but only 3 happily. Our humor keeps us going!

After hearing the posts on here about bubbas doing “upgrades” I wouldn’t buy something unless I could disassemble it and examine it in person. I’m fortunate to have been trained at the S&W factory, and have made a LOT of money over the years when da Bubba has had something in their hot little hands…

That whole buyer beware is even more prevalent since with the advent of boob tube which allows just about anyone to claim, i are a gunsmiths…

Sooooooo, I feel your pain. I would say to be sure, unless you can shoot it, or completely trust the seller, or the shop has a 100% guarantee of satisfaction/money back to just pass on it.

Regards, from the Bluegrass,
Rick Gibbs

I know that this varies from dealer to dealer, but my LGS stands behind every gun he sells, new or used. Obviously S&W takes care of the new ones, but he takes care of the used ones. I have bought a lot of used guns from him at very reasonable prices, and he probably made money on on all of them.
