I have a S&W Model #17-6 K-22 Masterpiece 4" bbl. revolver that I purchased new in 1989. It is in just about mint condition with only about 200 rounds through it. The blueing is really nice.

I no longer have the box but I have the original owner's manual and all original papers that came with it.

It also has an extra set of custom sambar stag grips made by Eagle Grips which look fabulous on it.

Can anyone give me an approximate value of this package? Thanks much!

Would LOVE to see it! Any chance you could post a picture (w/ the Eagles)?

TIA

Does it have the full lug barrel or standard barrel ? If it has the full lug barrel, Patridge front sight and you still have the finger groove combat style stocks that came on the full lug 17-6 K-22's, I'd say you could easily get $650.00 or more in California. You don't see many of the 4" full lug 17-6's anymore, and the Combat Stocks, especially if nicely figured wood could sell for over $100.00 on fleabay quite easily by themselves.

Here's a couple of pictures. It does not have the full lug or finger groove grips. I thought the 617 was the only one that had those two attributes.

S&W introduced the 4" heavy barrel profile in 1986 in the Model 17-4 series. It replaced the Model 18 which had a slimmer 4" barrel profile. The 17-6 was introduced in 1990, the earliest -6 guns still had the non-full lug barrel as S&W used up the parts on hand. The -5 and -6 guns had the new yoke retention system and radius stud package.

Thanks for the great info Walter! I got a e-mail from a gent who said he recently sold one for $700.00 and it wasn't as nice as mine and didn't have the sambar stag grips.

Oh yeah GF, I like trigger shoes on my recreational guns but I wouldn't put one on my defensive gun. They just work well for me when I'm target shooting.

I am guessing that he said this because a collector would be afraid of the two allen head screws marring the case colors on the trigger.

I've acquired Smith revolvers equipped with trigger shoes from time to time. If you remove the shoe, a dab of cold blue applied sparingly with a q-tip or pipe cleaner on the wear marks will blend them into the case coloring beautifully. The marks just disappear. I recently bought a Model 19, where the shoe's screws were epoxied over to make the setup "permanent." I just knocked the trigger shoe off with a plastic hammer (very carefully) and treated the marks as above. No sweat.

Yes, I understood what GF meant and I realize most folks don't care for trigger shoes but they work very well for me.

Paladin,
Very nice tip and thanks. However, I have never had any problems with them making any marks when I've removed them. The screws are made from fairly soft aluminum.
