Default Finally found a snub-nose model 19 in .357… here it is

Saw a 19-7 at a local gun shop on Thursday and had them hold it until I had time to come back and look it over. Decided to buy it today. I think I did OK on the price. They were asking $895 and the shop owner let me have it for $700… mainly because I have bought so many guns there and throw him a lot of referrals and leads on collections.

It is a 2 1/2” barrel, came in the molded case, no lock, pre MIM I believe, round butt… I’m thinking 1995. I need to locate the serial number look-up to be sure, unless any of you can help ID it…

Here are a few pics

Congratulations on an awesome find

Model 19 snubbs have such great lines

They are so hard to find because nobody wants to sell theirs

This two owner Model 19 has been in the family since it was manufactured in 1977

YOURS is BEAUTIFUL. I was hoping for an earlier one, and I will still keep looking, but I couldn’t pass this one up.

'the case'? If it has a matching label the Spec Ord number will tell us the date it was inventoried. CBY is likely 1997.

Thanks… that’s good to know. Seems like this one was lucky to miss getting the lock if yom is 1997.

When I get my hands on the case I’ll take a pic of the label.

Lock wasn't until 2002. No Model 19 (until the new 'classic') ever had the internal lock.

So once again info I find on the interweb is inaccurate… and Wikipedia of all places. Says trigger lock 1997 and internal lock 1998.

I’d guess 1997 for your 19-7. Mine has a CBP prefix and was manufactured in Dec 1996. My 19-7, and yours, does have one MIM component, the cylinder release. I think the MIM cylinder releases came into use in late 1995. 1997 was the last year for the 19-7, in 1998 the 19-8 came out. The 19-8 introduced the MIM hammer and trigger. S&W dropped the Model 19 from production in 1999.

So that's why they bring the high prices.

I have two. A -6 and a -3. They're staying where they are.

I’m going to ditch the Uncle Mikes rubber asap. I’m leaning toward these grips.

Nice looking Model 19.

I located some original combat grips for my two.

But wouldn't hesitate to go with some antlers from BigMtnMan and a Tyler T or a set of Culinas.

Your grip pic didn't pop up for me.

Default Model 19 2 1/2"

You did well in finding that 2 1/2" Model 19. You'll need to be careful as Model 19s can multiply pretty darn fast if you're not careful.

I once won a state police snub nose championship with a 2 1/2" Model 19.

Here is mine last year in the rain at 15 yards from the Weaver Stance and double action. Not quite as good as in my youth on the PD, but I guess it'll do.

Shoot it first with those grips before you throw them away. They work very well for range work. Not much to look at but functional.

I put Ahrends on mine but they're out of business.

Those UM grips are a licenced rubber copy of Craig Spegel's extended boot grips.......if you like the feel check out his wood grips.... his regular boot grip is my choice on the 2 1/2" 19/66

Agreed. Must have had an old one lying around still.
It does also have the new style MIM extractor (rectangle).

Congrats on your “find”!!

I have a 19-5 that belonged to my ex-LEO BIL who sold it to me in “friends and family” deal shortly before his passing…this one stays in the family.

Here’s the grip I ordered. It isn’t my first choice, but right now selections are running really thin. EVERYONE making nice wood grips seems to be out of stock.

THIS is the grip I have to have… IMO it’s just beautiful. However, I would definitely be stoked to find a set of stock wood Combat grips.

I’m keeping the Uncle Mikes for range days… otherwise it will wear the Altamont grips until I upgrade (when what I want becomes available).

About 40 years ago, I briefly owned a snub Combat Magnum. After one short session with 158 gr. magnums, I replaced the service grips with Pachmyer Compacs. Back then, you didn't hear "Ditch the rubbers!". I still think that combination of revolver and grip was the best-looking snub around.

Nice!

I love this old revolver, I've probably had it for 35 years or more, $300.00 when I bought it

Culina’s make a fine set of combats.

They fit my 19-7 and my hands perfectly…and look good doing it in my opinion.

Culina's has two sets of combat grips in stock right now...they're pricey but not really much more than you'd pay for a set of S&W combat grips.

Available Grips In Stock - Culina Grips

My only M19 is a 4" no-dash.
I only WISH that I could acquire a 2-1/2" version of ANY dash number.
But with gluttons like snw19_357 hoarding them, the rest of us don't even stand a chance at finding one!
