does anyone know anything about a three inch 629-1, square butt. Serial number was N936526. It does not appear to be cut down. The barrel inscriptions are centered and the ejecter rod and housing sre shorter than a standard 629. The ejector rod is about 1/4 inch shorter. It also had factory square butt finger groove combat grips. I was nat aware there was a three inch, square butt made.

Thanks

Nor I

Must be a barrel change from 3" round butt / or just purchased barrel.

FYI - there is a new old stock 3" barrel for sale in classifieds if someone else want one of these unique guns.
I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had a long barrel w/ a bulge!

There are two different size ejector rods [barrels] on 629 3"ers. The long/ full size was a rare low-run production of about 135 guns. The standard 3"ers had the short ejector rods - they are common.

yeah, definitely square butt. I just checked my Lew Horton 3 inch. The ejector rod is the same lenghth, but it seems the radius of the front of the ejector rod housing is slightly different.

The story is that the guy who has it said his father purchased it as a non-catalog item when he worked at a gunshop in Kansas City around 1984.
