When did S&W stop putting tool kits in with the guns? Was it a specific year or was it phased out by model? Thank you in advance for your replies.

Can't say for sure. I noticed unless it was in a wood presentation case, tools weren't included long before I got the terminal stage of "the fever". The last Smith I bought that *had* a set was back about 1980.

I'm guessing that they were eliminated when S&W went from using cardboard gun boxes to the plastic cases.

The last S&W revolver in a cardboard box I bought new was in 1993, and it still had the cleaning kit... the plastic cases weren't too far down the line.

Nothing wrong with resurrecting a 2009 thread but #819720 should have "N" prefix and would be app. 80-83 which could be either -2 or -3.
