The original Classic Hunter II, product code 103948, was a 6 1/2" revolver with an unfluted cylinder and a single expansion chamber compensator (also called Power Port). This was a distributor exclusive offering of 500 pieces, I can not recall which distributor it was for.
Is your 7 1/2" actually marked Classic Hunter II? I will have to look at the other side of mine when I get home tonight.
My 7 1/2" revolver is product code 163946 however their appears to be a 103946 that is a 7 1/2" 657 as well. This was a cataloged revolver, not a limited production firearm for one of the big distributors.
It is easy to know how many of a Distributor exclusive configuration were made because that have to be ordered up front. It is very hard to know how many of a production configuration are made because the factory can always turn out another 50 here, 100 there as the years pass. It is lost of work to add up those numbers and keep records of them for us enthusiasts.
