Hello, just looking for a manufacture date. Model 686-4 stainless with 2 1/2" barrel. Serial# BRW66XX.

Picked it up from a friend yesterday for 400.00 I thought it to be a pretty good price (don't know for sure). Had only been shot like 4 times at the most. It had four really dirty charge holes and two with no burn rings and super clean (smile).

Thanks for your help

Garrett

Welcome to the forum.

The 686-4 was introduced in 1993 and the 686-5 came out in 1997. It appears fom the prefix that yours dates to around 1994. If you have the box, the “Spec Ord” number on the label is a Julian type date code. Nice gun.

Thank you for the welcome.

Unfortunately, he didn't have the box to go along with it. I would have liked to have had the box, but it's not that important to me. It seems like a good solid revolver. Big and fat, too. (grin) I'm sure it will serve me well.

Thanks again for that date. Now if I can just get the rest of the black burn around the cylinder holes, I'll be doing good. It is really nasty. Who ever shot it used some really dirty ammo. I tried scrubbing it with solvent and a toothbrush and got some of it off, but not all of it.

Any ideas as to how I can clean that area up; short of using super fine steel wool?

Thanks again!

Garrett
