Does anyone know which CT grip ships on the factory 642 with CT grip.

CT makes the LG 105, 305 and 405 aftermarket grips, but which does the S&W factory model come with?

I'm contemplating mine as a pocket holster gun and am concerned if the larger, rubber model (305, I believe) would impair the draw.

Thanks

I believe it is the 405.

They ship with the 305, the larger set. http://www.smith-wesson.com/we...angId=-1&isFirearm=Y
But I'd say depending on your size and the size of your pockets they might still work. In the summer I wear khaki cargo style shorts and the pockets are alot larger than jean pockets which is what I mostly wear in the winter, but then I usually use a belt holster.
FWIW, I bought a 642-1 no lock late last year and have a set of the 405s on it. I love 'em!

I agree, they ship the larger 305's. I have the 405 and they are nice for cocealed pocket carry but I'd like to try the 305. I'll bet the 305's shoot a lot more comfortably. Too bad it would cost $300+ to try them out.

Well, I just bought a set of the 305's off Ebay. Guy took them off his new 642 so they are factory OEM CT's.

Has anyone found these to be poor grips for draw in pocket carry??

If so, I may be a seller on Ebay or Gun Broker to replace with smaller, slicker. I'll give them a try as I have fairly large hands and do not desire a two finger grip.

Being a Californian in a county with a sheriff who hates handguns, I can't carry. However, I have practiced around the house pocket carrying my 637 (the visible hammer version of the 642) in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. The handgun is equipped with the 305 CT grips. In my chino trousers, there is no "printing" (don't even own any jeans anymore). I must put my thumb on the hammer when drawing (your 642 is a much better choice), but the 305 grips are not a problem. The differences between the 305 and 405 grips are twofold:

a. I can get all my fingers on a 305 grip. With the 405, my pinky finger is out in space. With the recoil of an Airweight, even with standard pressure ammo, I need that pinky to bring the Airweight back on target.

b. The 405 has that shock absorber up high on the back strap -- right where I get (and pop) a blister when firing off a box of range ammo when I forget to put a bandaid there first.

That, in a nutshell is the difference. As for the 105 grips, they were made of a hard plastic and so must have been even more unpleasant to shoot than the 305s. They also left one's pinky wandering about looking for a home. Note that I just used the past tense in talking about the 105 grips. Last time I looked, Crimson Trace was no longer offering them.

Cordially, Jack

105s still offered. They're at the bottom of the page with the 305s.

Sonny -- I stand corrected. Perhaps they were temporarily out of the 105s when I last checked. One feature of the 105s I like: no on/off switch. I have three handguns with that on/off switch. Who needs an on/off switch if the circuit is closed until the button is squeezed (as it says right there in the handbook). On the other hand, I dislike hard polymer grips without any place to put my pinky. That's a double whammy!
