Frank, I don't know of anyone tough enough to shoot a 500 with wood on it.

I haven't tried it, but aren't the dimensions of the X Frame the same as a K Frame round butt?

Per the magazines the X frame grip is identical to the K/L frame round butt one so any K/L frame round butt grips should fit. Not too sure if correct or not but easy enough to test out.

Not sure I would care to shoot a 500 with wood grips installed with anything approaching full house loads.

oh nooooooo,

I just shot my new model 57 41 mag with Houge Wood grips on it. After 10 rounds of "warm loads" I put the rubber Houge grips back on it. I guess I will wood my highway patrolmen. The wood looks pretty but the mags and the 500 are just too much for wood to enjoy shooting them. If you like punishment-----polish and wax the wood grips up and grit-them-teeth.

Herrett's makes Jordan Troopers to fit your hand for this gun. I had a set and they were handsome but they hurt my hand. I sold them to Ohio Coconut, a member of this forum, and he really likes them. So, it is obviously a matter of individual preferences.

I also had a set of laminated Hogues custom made. Those I REALLY liked and they really moderated recoil as the gun tended to flip up like a single action. But....the recoil cracked them and I returned them.

Doesn't resolve your dilemma but it's additional info I guess. Don

I like the grips that came on my 500 but those wood grips sure dress it up.

Not true. The X Frame uses the K/L round butt grip frame. That was chosen to allow the use of heavily padded rubber grips without making the trigger reach too long.

I had a set of Herrett's Jordan Troopers on mine. They felt much better to me, and being custom made they fit my hand very well. I stayed away from the hotter loads, however, staying around 1200-1300 fps with 440 grain bullets.

I would love a set of round to square targets with smith and wesson emblems in the size of the N frame targets of the past. Not the thin in the middle conversion grips they sell now.

I’m confused… I ordered the X frame Hogue for my 629 round butt. If the X frame is made for the same fit as the K or L frame then why don’t I have a bunch of slack at the top of the grip frame???

These are Hogue monogrips for K/L frame. Haven't been to the range with it yet.

^ I hope your right, I ordered a custom set of K/L round Coco Bolo combat grips from Hogue.
K or L Rd. Coco Bolo Stripe Cap [19820] - $94.95 : Hogue Inc.

After firing one, I'd tell them to use Live Oak. It was good enough material for the keel of the USS Constitution - held up to over 200 years of salt water and battering from some heavy artillery. Should work for the 500.

LoL, I can fire the first 5 rounds of my 500 without my gloves. After that the gloves go on! If these new grips fit, I not going to even try it without.
