Just a plain ol' 686 no dash I bought new in 1982, shown with a custom presentation box my Dad made for my birthday that year.

According to my inflation calculator, that price would equate to only about $480 today. That was an excellent price even in 82.

If you're asking if its a Performance Center 6-shot 586 4" L-Comp, then the answer is yes. It's the only one I ever seen.

This one is called "Stinkbutt."

Because the butt retains the overpowering odor of the previous owners' Eau-de-Doo-dah-Dey cologne.

Here's my 681. It's a retired deputy's gun that's the slickest shooting S&W I've ever owned. Everything you need and nothing you don't:

geodimeter:
I had one just like yours, once. Had to sell due to medical bills. Fine revolvers. Very accurate. Loved the 4 position front sight on that l-o-n-g barrel. Maybe I will find another some day.

Default You showed yours, now I'll show mine

Traded an M&P 45 auto for this one and never looked back. Ex-deputy's gun from our county sheriff's department:

smooth as a baby's butt and shoots as good as it looks.

Below might be all of the L's I have left. I just came off a selling jag and gave away a couple,
one to our youngest son & another to our son-in-law, both of those were also Actions by "T" worked guns.
I gave the guns to them on one condition, they don't sell, trade, give-away, whatever, those guns as long as I'm alive.

Shown below wearing their "ugly goodyears". I got tired of always swapping out the "lookin' grips" for the "shootin' grips"
and eventually came to see the beauty in functionality. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Model 681 (no dash)(former TPD issue) with Crimson Trace grips; Safariland 200 duty holster; and Bianchi Model 7 concealment holster. (All holsters are moot at this point since the wife has claimed the revolver as the "house gun." My former next door neighbor gave me the Model 681 when he moved!)

Here is my imported back into the country 681-1. I had it glass bead blasted and a trigger job done to it. I just put the grips on it....some I picked up off eBay. The trigger is butter smooth and the single action is almost scary. Who says a range gun can't look good?

Default Fresh from range 3 inch barrel CS L frame

Sorry New to this and do not know how to post as other than attachment. Also not great as a photographer. A great local gunsmith owned and finally sold it to me. Very nice trigger. I have mixed feelings about the quad magnaport. Works great but very noisy. This has the letters CS inside the frame behind the crane followed by -1.

586-4 wearing the combats from my 617 no dash. A revolver with blue this beautiful deserves some equally dashing wood. Shoots as good as it looks too. Who needs a Colt Python

686 no dash, no M. One of my favorite range guns.

AAA prefix 581 -one of the earliest L frames.

686-1M with the uncommon 8 3/8th inch barrel. A real can popper at the range!

686-2 with an action job, B Square mount, Burris 2-7X and ugly Grippers. It wears Hogue wood now. Most accurate .357 I've shot.

Just the one right now. 686-4 Plus 6" with round-to-square Ahrends Cordia grips, Miculek trigger job, and D&L fixed rear sight.

Default 586 Comp L

My one and only L frame is this 586 Comp L from the Performance Center. Seven shots, moon clips, night sight, comped barrel, and a sweet trigger! It is much handier than the N frame 627 and easier to hide.

Guess I can play in this post. 686 bought new and 586 no dash bought two months ago. I really like the 586.

Thumbs up

Still think the 581-681 and the 586/686 is the best looking S&W revolver ever made.

Love this one --- I am guessing that 586s/686s factory cut for moon clips are pretty darn rare right?

My 586 no dash, with 7 shot titanium cylinder (38 special), because here in banana land 357 makes you a BAD GUY (Go figure!). I reshaped the targets and finish them with LBO. Look great and the revolver is awesome at the range! It could take the place of my S&W M 28-2 (Mexican Outdoorsman) as my favorite revolver.

Thanks! This is the first one I saw in a gun store. The funny part is that I was actually looking for the easier to find 3" 686 when I found this.

Glad to see this thread still going, here's my no dash 686 I inherited from my dad, he bought in July '81. I have the box, everything it came with even his receipt. He had an action job, trigger polish and beadblast done on it. It's wearing a rubber Hogue now as it's more comfortable for me when shooting magnums. Sorry the prop rod is upside down lol.
