Hey folks, I lucked into a 4" CS-1. I've read all the posts here on the model and a number of owners mention a "2M" stamp on the frame. Mine has just an "M". I have also read that early 686s had been recalled. Does anyone know if an "M" marked CS-1 should be sent back to the factory for a safety check?
Thanks,
Adam

The "M" means it has already been factory modified (new bushing and firing pin). Guns before the “-2” revision level were effected by the recall. You can use the find function and look for "686 recall" information - there's lots of it out there.

I just bought a 686-1 and have been reading the old post about the re-call. One said the M should be over the 686-1 on the frame. On mine, there is a M in front of the 686-1(M686-1) and I'm thinking it has not been modified. Anyone know for sure? I think my M is for "model".

It doesn't matter exactly where they stamped it. If it has an M stamp, it has been modified. There is no M for model.

OK ishootblanks, thanks, I will not worry about the re-call. I bought mine yesterday for $250 OTD but its kind of dirty and I want to clean it up before posting pics.
