Hi All,

Long story short, my wife orchestrated a purchase of a NIB 2006 50th anniversary model 29 for my Christmas present. Yes, she is a great woman However, to be honest, the bluing is not the best. There are blotches in the bluing and my older 29’s look twice as nice as this one.

My question(s): Is this normal for the newer handguns? Should I contact S&W? Also, does anyone know how many of these models they made?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dhasso

The polishing job done on the 50th anniversary Model 29 was not nearly as nice as was done on the older guns (50s, 60s, early 70s). The 50th I have is more of a standard blue rather than a bright blue, but it does not have any blotches that I can see.

I would send it back to S&W.....
See what they suggest!!!

Doc,
My 50th is gorgeous and is equal to the early guns I have.

Thanks for the replies gentleman,

It seems the “blotching” was an error on my part. To get the grease off of the pistol, I used Hoppes #9 when I cleaned her up. After reading the replies, I went at her with some Flitz and it polished out nice….the pistol now looks much better and as it should.

Thanks,

Dhasso

I recently bought one of the new 29 classics.
That blue was horrible as well. Only half the recoil shield was done, as well as the blotches.
Sent it back and it returned 3 weeks later with the best blue/polish job I ever saw.
