I just got a brand-new M&P 340. Haven't even gotten to the range with it yet (rain).

I've only played with it a few minutes now, and see where the cylinder has put about a 1/4" vertical scratch, down to metal, on the black finish on the side of the frame. When opening the cylinder, the back edge/corner of the cylinder rides against that little ridge that sticks out on the frame...that's where the scratch is.

Anybody seen this happen before? What should I do, see my dealer on Monday, or will I have to talk to S&W about it? Or is that just the way they all do?

If my description doesn't make sense, I'll take some pics tomorrow.

That little ridge prevents the cylinder from falling off the back of the yoke, so they're designed to make contact with each other. The frame is aluminum and the cylinder is stainless steel (much harder), so be careful when ejecting empties (excessive force can actually deform the ridge). I support the cylinder when I eject empties.

I don't buy guns to put on the shelf (not yet anyway). All my handguns I carry, at least some. They will get wear, I know. Always done autos before, now falling in love with revolvers...more in my future.
