I am contemplating the purchase of a nice used 4" S&W Model 681 no dash, serial number AAF9389.
Can anyone provide the date of mfg and any other info about this gun?
I understand there was a recall on this model. Will S&W still do the recall warranty work free of charge for me now even though I am not the original purchaser? I called S&W Customer Service early this morning, left message for Kate, and have yet to get a call back.

If your 681 does not have the "M" stamp inside the yoke, S&W will still do the recall work on it. If you see an "M" stamped above, or next to the model number, it has already had the recall work done.
I don't have my SCSW handy, so I can't tell you the date on yours, but I'm sure someone will be along with that info for you.
My 681 no dash is my favorite L-frame revolver. Tack driving accuracy in a great looking revolver. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI.
This gun does not have the "M" stamped so it appears the modification/update has not been done thus my question whether S&W would do it now free of charge.

Thanks for the information.

My understanding is that yes, they will do the work free of charge even if you are not the original buyer.
Having said that, are you sure the work is necessary? It may be good to shoot it for a while and see if there are any problems. If not, why bother?
